@naznatips: new games are being announced for all 3 consoles all the time. Most of the high profile games are going to the PS3 and/or 360.

As for that PSP vs DS argument that we already had...it's basically Crisis Core and Dissidia (newly announced btw) vs DQ9, FF12RW, and FFTA2. Those are the big releases. I'll enjoy the FFT remake on the PSP and I'm sure people will enjoy some of the other DS games, but let's wait and see how those games end up before we start saying Square is abandonning PSP and PS3.

I will stake my slightly fewer years of gaming against yours and say that the PS3 and 360 will not have any kind of drought of games in 2009. The lineup for both, and especially the PS3 (imo), are going to boost sales the 2nd half of the year.

Oh yeah, and this thread is about Soul Calibur IV being announced for the PS3 and 360. But I guess you somehow know they started that game years ago or something.

The statement that "most of the high profile games are going to the PS3 and/or 360" isn't really fair. Once again, I think you're lumping PS3/360 together to make the PS3 look good, when it's the 360 that's doing most of the heavy lifting here.

If you look here, over the last two months, the Xbox360 has had 7 new exclusive games announced by third party developers: the Playstation 3 has one, developed by "Ignition games," hardly a flagship software developer.

Otherwise, I largely agree with your analysis. I do think you mistake your personal opinions about game quality with those of the general public (you even admit you speak only for your own opinion), but otherwise I think your statements are spot on.

Wow, why are people still attacking Windbane on this topic? Do the numbers need to be posted again? Soul Calibur II on the PS2 outsold the GC version. The end.

Can you please not call him a douche? He's been remarkably calm throughout this discussion. You look particularly bad calling him names when is correct.

See? Right there. The PS2 version sold (approximately) 300,000 copies more than the GC version.

Wow...well, thank you.  I do believe it's useful to use this site's main purpose when you are posting on it.  Afterall, those numbers (vg charts) are why I started posting here...and the legions of Wii fans such as myself, heh.

I did tell gballzack to shut up, though.  That's my personal issue with gballzack, though.  I'll accept the douche, as it doesn't really bother me considering it's not often we argue about something that is as clear cut as this issue on this forum.

Windbane -- as you can see from my last post, I do still disagree with you on many topics.

However, you're usually calm, provide evidence to back your claims, and are generally polite (I suppose we all have our exceptions. I feel I've been too agressive towards you in the past, and I apologize for that). I strongly appreciate your presence on these boards, as you provide reasonable points about the PS3's strengths. Many of the PS3 fans left here are unrealistic fanatics: that's both a critique of the PS3 fans and of the Wii fans, as many of the more reasonable PS3 afficianados have been driven off by swarming Wii supporters (we may not even mean to be so aggressive, but it must be particularly annoying to have 6 people respond to every post you make supporting the PS3. It's not the content of any single post that seems unfair, it's the sheer frequency of the anti-PS3 posts that can be depressing).

yes, I'm sure it's been in development for some time. Unlikely that it's been years but at least 6 months. It was anounced with "here's what we know so far: Ivy, Mitsurugi and Nightmare are all confirmed returns, new and unannounced characters will make their debut, and the game features "realistic environments, interactive stages, enhanced AI, and a new battle system," according to Namco Bandai. A lot more will be revealed in EGM's upcoming Soul Calibur IV cover story."

If that EGM cover story has any screenshots, it's obvious that it began a while ago. If not, there is a chance that it's fairly new, but still unlikely. Games are never anounced when development begins, they are anounced when they feel confident that they have enough to show editors that they won't get ripped apart by them.

Ok my head is about to explode because apparently Capcom licensed the Unreal Engine 3 in 2007 as well.  Damn you to hell Capcom!!!!  Who cares if you have million seller games on the 360, don't you know it's a dead horse and games are going to dry up on it?  There's no use making anymore hardcore games for the machine because 360 users are going to simply stop buying your games to get in on the party game action on the Wii.  Didn't you guys get the memo?

Capcom licenses Unreal Engine 3

Author: Brett Thomas
Published: 28th Feb 2007

Epic's Unreal Engine family has been made use of in countless games, including some of the most notable of the FPS genre. The newest baby, Unreal 3, has already been used in blockbuster titles like Gears of War. Now, it appears another company is adding its name to the licensing rolls.

Capcom Co., Ltd., makers of both the Resident Evil and Devil May Cry series of games (as well as countless others), has recently licensed the new technology from Epic. Apparently, the company is making an undisclosed game with a North American studio, and the title / subject matter have been pretty well covered up.

Though it's not unusual to cover one's products up until nearer to launch, Capcom has repeatedly made some pretty blockbuster titles. Therefore, one tends to sit up and take notice when a big name like the Unreal Engine is dropped without some context of what it's being used on. Time will tell, we suppose.

GOD WILL YOU STFU!!!! I don't even know if your making a point anymore. You just post a thousand post about people using ther Unreal 3 engine. It's a good engine. Shut up. He is also right that after you get an engine, you STILL have more development to do. All it does is set up the for ground. You have to do all the rest. Just helps. That's all. But hey, it can also be used for Wii games as well as any other system so yeah.

But, he is right, I wouldn't doubt a drought in 2009. Many of the game you listed will probobly be released in 2008. We don't know what will be released in 2009 as of now. With how long it takes developers to make 360/PS3 games, it wouldn't be a surprise if they dried up for a while and a lot of Wii gamnes came up only for a slew of 360/PS3 games to apper. It's a possibility. Will it happen? Maybe not. But, it could.

Well, we'll see how many of those 360 games work out.  I think Sony's 1st party more than equals the new arrivals on the 360's list.  Also, my comparison being between the PS3 and 360 versus the Wii, the PS3 and 360 get most of the new big games announced by third parties, again, imo.  I'd rather have SC4 than SC Legends, for instance.

I don't think out of those 7 games that many will be good, so it's not very fair to criticize Ignition.

When the threads were going that listed the 20 games (or so) that you have to have this year for each system (exclusives), I think the PS3 more than held it's own.  Obviously, I am biased, but I thought the PS3's list was the best, and PSP's list is very good this year.  So that's why I said especially the PS3's lineup.  Now, obviously, Halo 3 is going to be a big seller and I'd like to play Mass Effect and maybe Bioshock and Too Human (if that comes out this year).  But I think the PS3 has a lot to counter that.

But yeah, I just think all of these developers that are launching their big games on 360 and/or PS3 can't be wrong.  I'd be very surprised if Wii spinoffs sold better.

I think it's just people jumping on the bandwagon when it comes to putting down the PS3, for all we know sales could pick up dramatically for it sometime in the future. There were 120 million PS2s bought as well as ~48 million of the competition and even with overlap that's still a lot of people who haven't picked a new console and that's not even counting the unknown number of casual users that have picked up the Wii to go along with gamers from the previous generation, etc, so it's all still up for grabs.

Yeah I remember arguing with you about something. I hated "your mother" before a few days ago when some other thread changed my mind, heh. It does get lonely on this forum, though, but I think it's gotten better lately with some people that aren't so stuck on just the Wii. ckmlb has had some great multi-platform threads/discussions lately in particular (including this one). He did that PS3 20 exclusive games thread that was very well done and continued mrstickyball's idea.

I do hope that more PS3 people visit, because all the PS3 fanboys seem to get themselves banned.
