*looks at title and OP of the thread*

I believe that the subject of this thread has been dealt with. Time to close up shop.

Oh crap, it looks like both franchises are dwindling in critical acclaim!

God of War is the bigger franchise.Using the DS as a scapegoat is ridiculous.Hanheld games generally lean toward every little kid out there. When AC sells that much on the wii, then we'll talk. That's also like saying that AC is bigger or as big as Halo.Ridiculous folly.

Right now, yes, Animal Crossing is a more purchased game than Halo.  I think it's hilarious that people think you can ignore the DS.  Like last year all the people who said Halo was the best selling game of the year when it was really a very distant third (behind Pokemon in first and Wii Play in second).

Here's a shocker for you: Right now, Nintendogs is the biggest franchise in the world, and will easily be the best selling game not bundled with hardware this generation, and possibly the best selling in the HISTORY of gaming.

Animal corssings is deff a larger franchise, selliong what it did and all, So ill say Animal crossings. As for a better game Ill go with GoW its amazing.

The DS isn't a scapegoat. It's a game system that pumps out software and hardware like you wouldn't believe, and it also cooks up some nice crow jumbalaya when necessary.

Just for the record, Nintendogs was bundled with the DS in Europe in late 2005. That was the only way to get a DS Phat with a different color (blue or pink) at the time.

I bought that pink DS in America for a stupid ex-girlfriend, and sold the Nintendogs, just to get her a good Pearl Pink DS to match my Japanese-imported Candy Pink DS.  Then I dumped the bitch.

But since the bundle was after the game was out on its own for a while, and was for Christmas and the colors and whatnot, I think the bundle effect is negligible.  Either way, I count all bundles.

Ah, well either way the non-bundled sales have far surpassed any other game in history in the time frame except the original Pokemon games... it may not be able to pass those.

Why do so many people think that selling to children makes a game less important?

Children have always been the core of the video game market. The only reason video games went cinematic and mature was to retain the market who grew up playing NES, some of whom were losing interest in games which didn't cater to their age demographic. What those kids grow up playing will have a big impact on what games they buy in the future for themselves and for their own children.

I would argue that selling to children makes a game more important, since younger people are years away from dropping out of the video game market, while adults drop out all the time.

popular influence on gaming industry-probably Animal Crossing. It's synoamis for what it does, where as GoW is considered a great action title.

popularity-In the West, God of War, but outside (worldwide) Animal Crossing

hypes-God of War by far

even hardware move-ability-Animal Crossing

In overall, Animal Crossing. It was not only a popular franchise with a unique concept, but also has higher sales and is a major franchise for Nintendo up there with Mario and Pokemon now (at least in terms of sales per game).God of War sells but it's a lot more of a game the hardcore fans like where most people probably don't know anything about it.
