Forums - Sales - Will the DS outsell the PS2?

I don't think so. The sales for the system in Japan are reaching saturation, and I expect it to do the same in NA and EU within a year or two.

You know the DS actually outsold the PS2 lifetime in Japan?, that is why it reach saturation and I expect something similar to America and Others so I predict DS > PS2 in 2 years.

Others, is really pretty hard to predict. But the numbers have been slightly decreasing this year (minimally though), so I guess it would rather fall than increase.

IF you compare price in U.S. vs Eu prices, it is easy to see why this is happening.

And for the Ds outselling Ps2, it is possible but durability of DsL against Ps2 makes it even more difficult. :p

Nothing's cheaper than something free.

F1 vs FOTA, when too much power is in couple peoples hands.

According to this Sony press release, PS2 reached 120 million as of november of last year, so it would probably be just over 125 million as of now, right? And isn't it a little uneven to compare a console to a handheld. I mean the accomplishment is incredible, but it seems a slightly unfair comparison.

Why? Handhelds would be in favor.

I might not be understanding, but that's my point. The comparison would seem to favor the handheld, wouldn't it?

Yes I think so.

Even if Nintendo release a DS2 before it reaches PS2 numbers, they are surely going to make it backwards compatible to play DS games and therefore DS games will continue to be made.
The DS is then going to be really cheap and look at how many the GBA sold in USA even though the DS was released because it was affordable by everyone and it's vast library of games were very cheap.

Yes because a console has a potential to sell  most of the time one per  home, while a handheld sells to multiple people who live in a home. The ps2s had bad failure reates though, and many people went through 2 and 3 of them. I had 2 because the of DRE. So I think  its a little bit more fair. Anyway people like to compare everything, so that is why there is a comparison.

Seeing that the DS appeals to pretty well everyone, (hardcore gamer, children, adults, elderly). Is cheap. Has a HUGE variety of games. Is portable. etc. I think it will well exceed the PS2 in total consoles sold.

Personally though, I hope the next version of the DS actually has some built in storage and will let you store multiple games on it and run them at any time vs having to cary around all the games or to get an "R4" or the like...

It'd be nice if you could switch to the DS "OS" to do simple things like change the screen brightness etc. during game play too. (and maybe even pause a game and switch to another and then come back).
