Forums - Sony Discussion - KZ2 technical director:we have got some help from insomniac and GOW studio

http://www.killzoneunit.com/kz/?p=1321

"The magazine features 12 pages of Killzone 2 goodness, some of which mentions that four-and-a-half of the six cores of the PS3’s Cell chip are being used by Killzone 2 at the moment. Guerrilla Games’ Technical Directer, Michiel van der Leeuw also mentions, “Sony basically has an international forum for sharing character technology, animation tools and graphics shaders. ~ We’ve even taken a few tricks directly from the Resistance guys at Insomniac, and we’ve even been talking directly to the God of War guys in Santa Monica.”

It looks like some of sony devs are really sharing the technology with each other,,,,which is great for us PS3 owners casue the quality of games will increase this way much faster ,,,,I just can't imagine god of war with close graphics to Killzone 2,,,,I might faint for that lool.

P.S. GOW=God of war

that sounds great, hopefully some of the things that insomniac helped with were AI and online

well last I heard, they got a third party that specializes in AI to help them, so cross AI out, but imagine Killzone 2 with awesome online like R2

From my understanding the AI for Killzone2 is being helped by these guys, http://aigamedev.com/site/2008-plan-killzone

Plus the online for Killzone1 was some of the best on PS2 from what i have heard from posters over on the Playstation site, but more help from Insomniac can't hurt.

Insomniac also likes to help just about anyone who develops games, over at their site they have a whole page of presentations and other stuff to help people make games. http://www.insomniacgames.com/tech/techpage.php

kz2 for the win

"this will be mediocre game because I say so"

Actually, Killzone 1 had horrible AI. That and the graphical glitches were the two main complaints against the game, and they are why it scored so low.

I tried replaying KZ1 a month or so ago, because all this KZ2 news was getting me hyped, and I had forgotten just how bad the AI was.  Enemies would make some flashy scripted entrance, and then they'd just stop, taking pot shots at you occasionally while standing out in the open.  If you were far enough away, they often wouldn't even notice you, DESPITE shooting at them and even hitting them.  They just stand there and take the shots.

Of course, the AI in KZ:L was much improved from what I hear, and they are getting special help (as you pointed out) for their own internal coders to make the AI even more intelligent than they were in KZ:L.

Strangely enough, if you look back at previews of the original Killzone, the AI was often praised, and I've heard that the demo for Killzone actually had much better AI than the final game.  I've heard that GG actually dumbed down the AI after complaints that the game was too hard, but they just happened to go to far with their changes.

Of course I can't back that up with any proof, and I certainly wouldn't take a rumor I heard to be factual.

In the end, however, it's apparent that Sony is investing everything they have in Killzone 2 to make it as great as possible  This project is being worked on by far more than just GG.

And the bigger news that we can take form this: the God of War teams is well under way on ps3 development, so much so that they are now assisting other teams! :D

God of War 3 will definitely be revealed at E3!
