Forums - Gaming Discussion - My Thoughts on GTA IV

Why do the members have to be so difficult? Calm down, or I'm handing out warnings (and maybe more!).

I think that the main purpose of GTA4 was to lay the groundwork for future GTA games this generation. By the next GTA, we could be traversing through several counties or maybe even an entire state again. And GTA4 is pretty much built on the mission and story structure, although I admit that a lot of the reckless fun is gone.

Yeah, I pretty much stopped playing GTA IV after I finished the story mode, screwing around seems a lot more like work than fun in this game.

As in go buy us some coffee.

Haha screwing around in GTA 4 is more fun then SA because you can do it multiplayer. Now you can jump in the helicopter and get 5 stars while your friend shoots an Uzi from the passenger seat.

Sorry but 4>3

I did not like GTA IV one bit, even (or because?) though I liked the previous ones. I even loved the previous ones, with Vice City being the clear favourite, San Andreas tried to bite over more than it could chew and even this far into the series Rockstar have not sorted out the controls and the severe pop-in issues.
GTA IV has all the flaws from last gen, which is a true shame for any dev and it shows that R* are not worldclass programmers.
Add in the complete lack of character and soul and you are left with a hollow, allbeit pretty, shell of the glory GTA once was and it saddens my heart as a gamer and especially as a longtime GTA fan.

I would agree that GTA4 has lost alot of the fun and freedom of San Andreas. Still a good game though.

You know if GTA4 had remained a Playstation exclusive it could have tapped into the extra Blu-ray storage and had much more content, but MS likes to ruin everything.

everybody knows why the game delayed for 8 months, and wasnt XBOX problem for sure...

Thats like saying "if Sony had a better online service Rockstar could have expanded and enhanced multiplayer and DLC beyond two exclusive episodes, but Sony likes to ruin everything."

Your anti-Sony rhetoric annoys everyone. seriously if your 360 is so amazing go and play it.

BTW: You should be thanking Sony for bringing the great Final Fantasy games and Grand Theft Auto games to the world.

On topic both GTA: Sandreas and GTA IV are two excellent games in their own right. PS3 FTW.

Why should I thank Sony who neither created Final Fantasy nor GTA for stealing those games away from the Nintendo consoles and the PC?

FF belongs on Nintendo consoles, GTA belongs on the PC, in case you don't know.

.....What?

No series "belongs" on a console. Hell, we could all pester Microsoft for harboring several series that "belong" on Sega consoles. The Sonic series was far better when it was on the Sega consoles. The Grand Theft Auto series was crap on the PC. The top-down view was nearly impossible to play with, and the mission structure was primitive at best. And the 7th generation FFs as we know them today wouldn't be possible on the N64. Series usually end up going where the hardware best suits them or where they will sell the best. A series, if third party, doesn't "belong" anywhere.

I agree completely.  You could argue that Nintendo has had dozens of titles "stolen" by other platforms.  Take Banjo Kazooie for example.  We all know half the flak it copped when it was revealed was only because its no longer on a Nintendo console.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

I know that the term doesn't make sense. I just wanted to respond in the same tone of the post I was quoting. But your Sega argument doesn't count because that happened when Sega had already been put out of (hardware) business. But let's not argue about that since my first post was already off-topic.

I agree. I give GTA IV an 8/10. I would still play San Andreas if I still had it.
