Am I missing something?  I know an elipsis is used in proper english writing to signify the omitting of some portion of a quoted text.  I also know that in casual speech it is common to trail off as if to suggest something or to show a lack of certainity.  Online, this is frequently shown with an elipsis.  Other times, people use an elipsis to show that they are speechless.  However, I was under the impression that an elispsis was written using three periods and not three commas. 

At first, I assumed it was a typo they didn't notice.  However, I've seen people using three commas consistently.  Is this some "everywhere but America thing" like the switching of commas and periods in numerical values (i.e. 2,500.64 vs. 2.500,64)?  Is it some internet thing where a typo spawned a commonly used phrase like "pwn?"  Or are some people just retarded? (Or am I just retarded?)

That was what prompted it.  However, I've seen it used all around the web.

Like how people now deliberately spell 'teh' instead of 'the' when it used to be a typo, or how 'owned' became 'pwned' you simply have someone who hit the comma instead of the period and either they're consistently typoing or they just decided to do it deliberately to be different or something.

 A bit off-topic I am, but could someone elaborate on these other, more "casual" uses of this elipsis "..."? I am not familiar with this use.

Person B: Right...

Example 2:-

Person A: I once made love to a chicken

Person B: ...

Oh. But those make perfect sense.

and not just

...

I thought "..." was "elipsis". Because when you omit portion of a quoted text, you put "..." or (...) there, not just three dots.
