Um sorry, but more like 2k for a pc that could run crysis on max.

Actually here is your 6k pc,
-Amd HD 4870 $329
-Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 $119
-Any motherboard over $100 should be fine
-Any hard drive of your choice minimum being $70
-Operating system $100
-Ram $60
-Case+cooling system $150 with a good power supply
-Dvd drive $20
-Keyboard+Mouse$20
Now that adds up to about $968 and I'm almost certain it could run crysis on ultra high at or near 60fps.

1k?... Out the box?

What about the Wii HD? I've not even heard rumours about that one!

Nintendo stated this just before the Wii launched.  Their next console will be at least 720p standard.

On topic:

8 th gen consoles will easily run Crysis at 1080p and 60 fps.    A computer that can do so shouldn't run much more than about $1k and will easily be under that by the end of the year.

By the time the 8th generation consoles come out, a basic cheapo PC from Wal-mart would be able to run Crysis at those settings.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Yeah maybe change the Amd HD 4870 $329 to a 9800GX2 which is 600 dollars. So for about $1,500 you probably could max crysis.

Damn it kid, you beat me to it

I figure that the next generation of consoles by Sony and Microsoft will come in at about $400. Nintendo will probably stay at $250 or maybe $300. The graphics for Sony/Microsoft will be similar to the top of the line PC graphics in 2011 and with some fine tuning by programmers for the system will eventually look like PC graphics of 2012. Nintendo will go for something like what the PS3/360 are doing this generation and stick expand on the motion control scheme.

Sony and Microsoft will not make dramatic jumps over the PS3/360 in order to hit lower price points. Both will use BluRay which will be a lot cheaper to produce by that point.

I give this thread a 9.7.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

I still think your underestimating the strain running the game in full HD will have. At 60 fps? Also running right out the box no assembly required? Most of you seem to think you should be able to pick something like this up for $400 by the end of 2008? Ok I'll take your word for it. Seems a bit optimistic to me. But that's only good news for all gamers if you're right.

Oh from brand names like Dell,. Um then like 3,000 dollars because they double everything in price. What pc gamer would buy brand name though?

There is no PC that can run Crysis on Ultra High and all settings to full at 60 fps regardless of price, it is too badly optimized.
A steady 60 fps is almost impossible even years down the line; I play Half-Life 2 at 55-60 fps on average and that is a game from four years back that was not even very hardware demanding for its time.
Even on 1024x768 with no AA or other effects it is hard to climb above 65-70.
These mythical PC for a few hundred bucks that can run Crysis with max settings do not exist, simple as that (cue someone to link to Tom's Hardware, neglecting the fact that they did not have all the settings to full, just the overall quality bar that defines sharpness, texture size and level of detail not to mention the fact that their fps averages were quite poor on all resolutions).
