Forums - Sony - Sony's Next (Wii-type) Controller?

I could see the adoption on this being easy as pie :P It still has the same functionality of a sixaxis controller, they would just have to do the additional inputs for the game and make it non-mandatory. However, I'm not really the greatest fan of motion control, so give me my triangle button for climbing latter's please :D

@the above comment about "who would want to climb latter's anyway with motion control", I believe I was saying the same thing about opening doors in Metroid prime 3, but everyone thought that was a great idea >_>; Some people just like the stuff.

I only really like the idea because I can split the controller apart xD which is one of the few things I like about the Wii. It just makes it easier for laying down and chillaxin.

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

Looks really cool, and is a great idea but cant really see the uses being particularly necesary, except maybe boxing, but its too early to judge this now, we will have to wait and see what Sony comes up with.

Also this would need two battery packs, how would that affect the cost?

Also just had a thought, they would have to be careful with the power of the magnets, it would be a shame to put your controller on your PS3 only to realise youv just damaged the hardrive.

BAD NEWS!!!!

THIS IS A DUALSHOCK 2 CONTROLLER EVERYONE, AND IT WAS FROM 2006!

SORRY TO REPORT THE BAD NEWS!

However it could still be devolpment for the PS3.

This would be a terrible idea for Sony if true--I'm sure the tech itself would be cool, but they JUST forced their hardcore fans (who would be the only ones supporting this) to upgrade to Dualshock--imagine if that was already obsolete in a month or two?

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

This looks lame. No IR either, which would be the whole point of a new Sony controller I'd think, unless their 'tards.

Interesting concept, but they left out one key element - gamers are not the neatest/cleanest people in the world. So after eating that cheeseburger, your fingers are covered in grease, which gets all over the controls. In turn, they lube up the magnets that allow for breakaway, and in 2 months, the magnets no longer function properly and now you can't reconnect them.

Why do engineers have to ignore product functionality in a real time environment? For as smart as engineers are, they're pretty dumb sometimes =)

or are they...dang my controler dosent work right , guess i will have to buy a new one

Touche! =)

so...there will be 2 batteries for one controller? what a stupid idea for a controller.

It seems as if it breaks away way to easily so that if you were at a part of the game which got really intense and required a lot of button smashing and you accidently split the controller in half, you may mess up the game. I dunno, seems pointless.

Easy solution, make the controller lock together when in one piece. Then unlock before ya break in half. Simple. Great concept.
