Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Gears of War the movie gets a director and writer.

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news08/080617k.php

"Len Wiseman ("Underworld," "Live Free or Die Hard") is set to direct the hit Xbox 360 video game adaptation "Gears of War" for New Line says the trades.

Chris Morgan ("Wanted," "Fast and Furious") has been hired to write the screenplay based on a story treatment he will develop with Wiseman. It's not sure how much of Stuart Beattie's original draft will survive.

Set on the planet Sera, the game thrusts players into a battle for survival between humans and a race of creatures that surface from the bowels of the planet known as the Locust Horde. Players assume identities of soldiers on Delta Squad as they fight to save Sera's inhabitants.

The award-winning game sold more than three million units worldwide in its first ten weeks and is Microsoft's second-biggest seller after the "Halo" franchise. A sequel game hits stores this Thanksgiving.

This movement on the project also indicates that the new form of New Line, as a sub-division of parent company Time Warner, will be handling big-budget action fare rather than low-budget speciality titles as previously thought."

Well lets hope its at least better than Doom!  That cannot be too hard!

Well Len Wiseman is at least a competent director and Chris Morgan is involved with Wanted. Wanted however will have been completely the child of Timur Bekmambetov.

I don't mind Len Wiseman at all. I enjoyed both of the Underworld movies and I heard Diehard 4 was good. Theres a chance he will cast his wife into the movie even though there aren't any big female parts that I can remember.
You need to add that Chris Morgan wrote Tokyo Drift and not the first Fast and Furious movie.

Hi, this is Vince with Shamwow.

i hope a good movies

Oh no, another game-to-movie conversion, they never work. For examples of how bad the can get, watch Dungeon Siege, Tomb Raider or Super Mario Brothers... This movie will suck bigtime no matter who's at the helm steering it, it is the way of movies based on videogames.

Well, if he directed Die Hard, I have hope for this movie.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

You forgot Alone in the Dark and BloodRayne, coughuwebollcoug.  There have been some good ones though, Hitman, Silent Hill and the first Mortal Kombat.

Hi, this is Vince with Shamwow.

Yeah, I actually liked Silent Hill. And then there's Resident Evil and the first Final Fantasy which both sucked because the writers simply opted to forego everything from the games and make up something entirely different (which was poorly made). haven't seen Hitman yet, but I was disappointed in their lead role (Olyphant). The first Mortal Kombat was kinda cool for its time, but I actually think that Street Fighter was just as good despite some weird casting at times (Kylie Minogue, wtf?!).

God I loved the first Mortal Kombat But the second was an abomination.

I was surprised at the casting of Olyphant as well.  He didn't do to bad, it's not like he was expected to be super charasmatic to begin with.  I mentioned MK because compared to the second movie it was good haha.  It wasn't anything special but I could watch it now and not get bored with it.  Street Fighter, I think no one really liked because of the casting, especially Van Damme and just because he was the big name in the movie it had to center around Guile and not Ryu, Ken or even Chun Li.  Have you heard about the new SF movie that is going to be about Chun Li?!  All I can say to that is yea...
