not sure if R2 will outsell Gears 2 in Europe.

Sure ps3 is strong in europe, but gears is very strong in europe too.

Just my thoughts.

I disagree, by the time they are released the PS3 will be ahead of the 360 in Europe by a decent margin, I think the userbase (and the fact that R2 is making so many huge improvements over the original) will make R2 the victor in europe.

As in go buy us some coffee.

They get stale in a week or so. That's why we get a fresh thread on a weekly basis.

Yeah... Gears only sold 80k in Japan total... with a user base of 322k.

The install base is only 1.90x greater now.

Resistance sold 140k total with a user base of 0... The user base is 2mil x's greater now...

I dont see your logic there.

2 million times zero is still zero...

Damn I was hoping someone wouldnt catch that....

Ok I went back and looked at numbers.

Ps3 on launch in japan opened with 86k and that is 25x greater user base now...

Also each will sell more units before these games are out but this obviously tips the scale in the favor of the Ps3 in Japan... My comment still stands on how I dont understand how he came up with those numbers.

I know, but Gears was already a pretty incredible game. Resistance has a lot more headway for making improvements.

Based on both games first numbers i'd say gears based on what I want RFOM.

Gears of War 2 is very popular. That's why I think that it will win!

I don't see why people will get astonished if Gears of War 2 will sell more than 2,000,000 first week. :o

Gears is a proven franchise. Only the thought that it will be bigger and "more badass" is shifting the expectations and the sales of course. Don't forget that it hasn't drop its price from day one. Almost 2 years later a new package is under discussion, and we haven't seen anything yet. Put a little hype, like MS knows how to do it, and there we are. 2000000 on week 1, easily.
On the other hand we have a game that the first incarnation was a "meh" on the single player campaign ("Βlack" was easily more next gen than RFoM), it was the only choise for a PS3 early adopter, and it was bundled in many places all over the world. As a multi player was fun and that's what I think will count in R2 success. I saw the new footage today, nothing impressive there. But the 60 player multi is really interesting. Conclusions are yours to make.
