Forums - Sales Discussion - Nintendomination increasing...

I agree with psrock

I don't think this thread is that bad.  As far as the title which psrock specifially mentioned Shams simply stated "Nintendomination increasing....."  Flamebait would be along the lines of "Nintendomination increasing!!!  HD consolez are dead!1!"

Considering this is a sales forum a sales analysis topic like this is perfectly legit especially since shams brings up the exclusive vs. non-exclusive argument and how it pertains to Wii vs. HD sales which hasn't been pointed out in another thread (or recently that i've seen).

Flamethreads ?  Shams?  No way he would never create one

You know what I do when I want a cinematic experience? I watch a movie.

Just like I don't go to a paramedic for a physical, and I don't go to a fast-food restaurant to have a fine meal. Both of these do provide goods or services that are similar to what I'm looking for, just as video games attempt to recreate cinema, but they do not do it nearly as well as someone or something that is dedicated to providing that good or service.

@azrm2k:
The thread title was not the wisest choice and this thread comes too early. We already had plenty of Nintedomination threads on this site and it´s too early to tell where PS3 and 360 wlll end. That´s why I agree with psrock.

@Impulsivity, keep dreaming about PS3 outselling Wii. It won't EVER happen, never no chance. And by the way it looks like you haven't played any Nintendo Wii game so far, calling SMG, MP3 or SSBB the same old game is truly stupid.

I guess you are a troll and you are upset and sad that your console of choice isn't going to "win" this gen. I'm not too concerned about who wins what, but I'm realistic.

I owned a GC last gen, supported it to death and it was a wise choice, I've played some of the best games ever made.

Be happy the PS3 is STILL getting games, not too far in a distant future, your luck will be different. Exclusives for PS3 LMAO?! All multiplats or 360 timed exclusives. PS3 is destined for 2nd or 3rd place, there's no discussion. Wii appeals to casuals, hardcore and non-gamers.

Even a dog could tell you that Wii has already won this gen.

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

First off Metroid Prime 3 is basically identical to 1 and 2 in every way.  Similarly Smash Bros Brawl has a horrid 1 player experience which is an "upgrade" similar in quality to that god awful water pack last gen in Mario.  I have no idea why it is stupid to claim Nintendo games are derivative, they just are.

As far as the Wii getting all the good games please look at the E3 lineup.  http://games.ign.com/articles/880/880004p1.html

What wii games are there that seem good at all there?  Oh boy Game Party 2!

I'll be much happier with Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, a new motorstorm, Gran Turismo 5, and a bunch of great 360/PC/PS3 games thanks.

It is pretty sad though that game party 2 will probably sell a million copies

As to the games aren't cinema point I agree fully, they're not, they're infinitely better if done right!  Cinematic does not mean a movie, it means an interactive high quality experience (GT4 for instance) that is engaging, has interesting characters with believable personalities and amazing spectacles that create a continually exciting narrative.  There's just none of that in any of the first party Nintendo games.  How many characters in any of the Nintendo games have said much more then here we go and I'm a gonna win.

Nintendo likes to make money only in video games so they make cheap last gen hardware ... the Gamecube was way behind both PS2 and Xbox

Galaxy is damn similar to Super Mario Bros

Or you really love the imagine games and mini game collections in which case the Wii is clearly your system.

I have to say every Wii game, even with the different controls, was the same game I played on the N64.

Maybe nostalgia does it for you but I don't want to play rehashes of the same games I used to love when I was 4 on the NES.

What is it you're trying to say exactly?

@Impulsivity: I won't waste my time with a person like you, you don't deserve it.

It would be interesting to take the top#200 worldwide weekly sellers, and sort by "number of weeks since release". Ninty would probably own the entire top#20, and 90% of the top#50. But the legs of their main games are well known by now.

Done! I wanted to see the result, so I ran the numbers myself. Although for my own sanity, I cut it down to the top 100 instead of 200. As shams said before, you'd really need to run this comparison over a number of different weeks to get a statistically meaningful result. Someone else can do that though.  Here we go:

Apologies for the colorfest, it was WAY too hard scanning the list when everything was black. I used the same colors we use on this website, with the one addition of changing PS2 to orange to distinguish it from PS3. I'll come back and do some more analysis tomorrow (time for bed!), but here are some early conclusions:

- Pretty balanced between all of the major platforms, to be honest. PS3 and 360 did better than expected - at least over the full 100 spots. The DS really dominates the top 25 spots on the list.

- What's up with the legs of 360 games? Despite being out a year longer, the top 360 game (Lost Planet, 77 weeks) is below the top PS3 (83 weeks) and top Wii game (81 weeks)! 360 also only manages 5 games in the top 50 (Wii has 13, PS3 has 9). 360 definitely sells software, but wow is the console front-loaded!

- It's really obvious when the holiday season hits, because so many titles are released at the same time. Look at the huge cluster of games released 30-33 weeks ago, and you can even see the year before that at 77-83 weeks!

Anyway, that was a fun way to kill an hour. More tomorrow.

End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)
