Forums - Nintendo - Should Nintendo buy third party support?

I agree for RPGs, they all seem to go to the HD consoles.... cause of the HD capabilities that lets them do something really different from the DS, but the Wii would benefit greatly from having a lot more, especially if they can include DS compability.

They shouldn't pay for exclusive support - they will get it for free as their market share increases.

They should instead spend the money on buying Studios, and recruiting talent to their established studios.
I would like to see Rare's IP back in Nintendo's hands - VC could get Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Conker's bad fur day. The Wii could get good sequels to these.

I dont think they need to buy third party support but they do need to introduce a quality standard to cut the crap and they should advertise decent third party efforts more.

They need to change their outlook slightly towards third parties - example: when the Nintendo channel was launched all of the demos were Nintendo games, only Nintendo games have had channels as in Mk Wii and Wii Fit. If they offered services like that to third parties then we may get better efforts.

Didn't they pay for 3rd party support last generation?

Was it EA or Capcom or someone?

They paid Capcom to have Resident Evil (remake), Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 4 exclusive to the Gamecube. Capcom however bailed on that deal with Resident Evil 4 and you know what happened.

buying third party developers is dangerous unless they're small, tallent tend to run away in the buy up.

I don't know what Nintendo's motivation or logic is, but I don't expect them to buy up any third party support when they don't need to. I'm sure they'd rather just watch third party developers struggle to make ends meet as a result of not giving the Wii their full support.

They should just buy Square Enix and the console war is over forever.

Sony owns a lot of S-E shares which they bought when the FF movie bombed and Square went bankrupt. I don't think they'll be selling them to nintendo.Besides, people seem to be forgetting that Nintendo's size as a company pales in comparison to Sony and M$. No matter what their profit is, they can't afford to run around buying all kinds of 3rd parties.

That was Enix who bought up Square and merged with them that time (square's third bankrupcy), Sony bought a bunch of shares after Square fled Nintendo and was facing bankrupcy a second time.

They own about 6% I believe, that isn't alot. Also nintendo is far larger than the gaming divisions of each of them. They have other things to do, they can't just put all of their budget into video games. So yes nintendo is larger, and I believe nintendo is worth more if a company was to tryy to buy them. Neither could sony or microsoft, Instead of gaining profits they lost. Nintendo hasn't lost a profit in years. Not even when they were selling the least. Nintendo is by far the largest of the 3 in terms of gaming. If you take everthing else into consideration they are larger, but they can't use all of their profits to put into gaming the same way nintendo could.
