It takes some real cojones to brag about a 6% difference in attach rate.

Kick Ass.
Good numbers overall.
^What is really hilarious is "The media have hailed 2008 as the year of the PS3, and with solid sales and growth opportunities ahead, we feel consumers are saying the same."
“In the entertainment business, there are only heaven and hell, and nothing in between and as soon as our customers bore of our products, we will crash.” Hiroshi Yamauchi

@Fishy Joe
it takes a real EPIC & Monster of a console to still be selling so well after 7 years
All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

* Of the top 30 best-selling games of May, 19 are made for Nintendo systems, including third-party hits like Guitar Hero™ III: Legends of Rock from Activision, We Ski™ from Namco Bandai, Game Party™ from Midway and Boom Blox™ from Electronic Arts.
19 out of 30 is almost like the Japanese charts, Nintendo is really doing great software wise. And good to hear Boom Blox sold decently.
* 442,910 of copies of Grand Theft Auto IV were sold for PS3 in May, with more than 1.4 million of copies of the game sold for PS3 in the U.S. to date. More than 32 percent of U.S. PS3 owners have purchased a copy of Grand Theft Auto IV, a 6 percent higher attach rate than Xbox 360.
So PS3 sold around 1M copies of software besides GTA IV, meaning that title accounts for almost one third of the total software sales on the PS3.
@Esmoreit: I'll go to bed soon, no hurry though since I don't have to go anywhere tomorrow.
A serious congratulations to VGchartz. I think this is be closest I have seen the number come to NPD numbers yet.

I understand that but it's legitimate for them to bring that up as a reason for PS3 winning Jan/Feb when plenty of people could verify the shortages across the US by walking into a store and seeing no Premium or Elite SKUs. The thing is once MS worked out the problem the 360 fans stopped mentioning it and didn't keep trying to use that as an excues and the PS fans continue to bring it up to mock them months later. At this point it's just getting annoying. I fully expect to hear "Haha wonder if there were shortages" in September. |
This is a little late but I feel I must comment here.
They were still trying to use this excuse in April not just Jan/Feb and this is because MS said "we will hopefully have this sorted out by GTA4 launch" (end of April)
And everyone even nintendo fanboys tried telling people using this excuse "uh... shortages??? where? I see plenty of 360's" back in Feb. but 360 fanboys claimed that once shortages were fixed the 360 would be outselling Ps3 week in and week out by 50k a week in NA again.
It doesnt matter how many months the mocking goes on. 360 fanboys deserve to be made a mockery of because they hung on MS' words. They preached a bunch of bullshit. We had to take months (four to be exact) of them swearing they will outsell us when stock goes back up so now its our turn to shove it in their faces. I think untill August (four months) is fitting here.

Sigh.
Even if the PS3 hardware sold really well last year and shit this year I would have expected an increase in software sales.
Always nice to see VGC and NPD coming real close on hardware and software sales - again, not because one is "better" than the other, but because we can rest assured we have a pretty good view of the market when the two of them mirror one another.
PS3 outsells 360 by 10% - OMG! [/sarcasm] More evidence that all non-fanboys can't tell the difference between the two platforms. Yes, it's nice for Sony and a great improvement over last year. No, neither platform will ever get a large enough install base to start stealing exclusives from the other (without extensive moneyhatting).
The "Wii is in/out of stock" argument is pointless for both sides. Who cares? Wii had 63% market share this month! It's irrelevant whether or not the darn thing is in stock.
End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)
