Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft shoots themselves in the foot with Halo 3

I honestly don't see what the issue is. I played FF7 on like what... 4 discs years ago? Didn't bother me one bit. Ill do it this gen also if I have too. Two disc or even 3 discs games are fine by me since they forewent the increased console cost that would have existed had they went with a higher capacity drive. Period.

Well, new technology in games allows for streaming content and open worlds with no loading breaks, like WoW (except for instances) or Lair or Uncharted or GTA. Would be harder to make games with this tech span several discs.

i don't know how anyone can say 360 should have a hddvd/blu-ray drive. Maybe some people don't care about paying the extra 200$ or whatever, but there is no doubt in my mind the 360 would have bombed at 600$.

Sure it would bomb... but $200 for a Blu-Ray player is a pretty fair offer. For me at least.

if you mean as an add on for watching movies, it's not a bad idea.

If you're looking for a good companion for your 40"+ 1080p LCD then the PS3 is a bargain. At least it's for me. Here in Norway I payed 923US$ for the PS3 and 4500US$ for my Sony Bravia 40X2000.

1 US$ is about 6.5 NOKS. (Norwegian Krone)

The problem with the PS3 vs. 360, in terms of sales is this:

The Playstation 2 sold 120 million units, worldwide, and counting.

The Xbox sold 25 million units, worldwide, and is now dead in the water.

The PS3 in no way, shape or form, will match it's predicessor, whereas the X360 will totally whomp it's predicessor in every way.

Also, I would question where the PS3 will be at this Christmas. Can it move 3m+ systems in Nov/Dec like the 360 did?

Coming up with stuff like "the PS3 is selling at the same rate as the 360 aligning lauches" totally throws away the past 5 years of Xbox and PS2 sales, and 10 years of sales history with Sony.

If you want to pay $600 for Blu-Ray, thats fine. When the next-gen launches, HVD will probably already replace Blu-Ray, and we'll have Xbox 720 with a 3.2tb storage solution vs. a still-aging PS3 with a 50gb storage solution.

There was no way the 360 could of had a next-gen optical format when it launched. HD-DVD was nowhere near done (launched about 8 months after launch, 10 months after production of the 360). MS had nothing to do with HD-DVD, aside from approve of it vs. Blu-Ray. Sony had to put it in to make the format win, and promote the Blu-Ray, and try to justify the insane price of the PS3.

You can have your $600 PS3. I don't want it. I'm more than happy with the idea of disk-swapping games like Halo3 and Blue Dragon, rather than 1-disk games like Folklore and Uncharted.

sorry to butt heads with you again, but Microsofts original 360 devkits did have a HD-DVD drive in them. Many of thier poster games like GoW where initialy created with this in mind. Which ended with alot of game changes and posponments due to MS dropping the format at the last minute.

Believe me when MS first unvieled their new system it was suppost to contain the next-gen player. HD-DVD would have had a better chance if MS would have waited just a little longer to release a true next-gen console with GoW as a launch title.

Do you have any sources to back up these claims? They're pretty big ...

Why would he need sources? You should just take his word for it.

Hey, I don't think he's right either, but let's not be sarcastic, please. Read CGNobody's post and tell me if he's being mean or antagonistic in any way -- in fact, I see him being polite, kind, and straightforward. Yes, he's missing sources, and I don't think all his logic is sound (just my opinion, CGNobody), but that doesn't warrant this type of caustic comment.

We can disagree with him. Strongly, if we want. But since he's being nice, can't we afford him the same courtesy, even as we disagree?
