Forums - Sony - MGS4 LAUNCH: JAPAN SHOWING SONY SOME LOVE !!!!

There is NO way PS3 hardware will hit 100k - zero chance.

MGS4 will sell around 250k-300k (software!) week#1 - and you would think that 80% of purchasers already have a PS3 (at least). This means about 30k bundles could sell, so total PS3 sales for the week could hit 30k-50k.

Lets not also forget that MGS is about as top-heavy as any title for the PS3, ever. Looking at a 50%-80% sales drop-off from week#1.

Find out soon enough...

Well seeing that the first week that its on the chartz will only count for 2 days of release I think your wrong. I would guess something of a 30% drop off in Japan. Then again that depends on how much it sells launch. Im going off 300k. If it sells more then 500k then I can see how thats possible.

Wow, who said that it would reach 100k? That's a bit...irrational.

Roadkillers: It won't get anywhere close to 500k. Metal Gear Solid 2 launched to numbers of 470k in Japan when the PS2 userbase was 6.2 million (it also sold 120k that week). As hyped as the game is on the PS3, it just doesn't have the userbase for it. 25% in the first week would be pretty unlikely.

Is that Kojima? He looks pretty tan...

Kojima has never even come close to a smile in his entire life.

And that was from a quick Google search.

That looks like it's physically painful to him.

Doesn't look too impressive. I don't care much about software sales than about the hardware sales for the moment. If they won't go up, we'll never see those RPGs on the PS3... If MGS4 can't boost sales fast in Japan, PS3 is officially doomed in Japan and can all the MS / N fan-boys here laugh their asses off...

I think its gunna do incredible. Plus if they sell out of bundles which they might thats another 100,000. I believe in it. I think it can make over 400,000 possibly 500,000. Yet I cant say first week because when the sales for this games first week comes out the game would only be out for what 2 or 3 days during that weeks period.

Was in Akihabara from 1030-4pm today.  The bundles arent exactly flying off shelves. You could easily walk up to the counter at many of the stores and pick it up if you wanted to.  While I was waiting in line at Yodobashi camera in Akihabara, there were 2 people i saw that did pick up the bundle.  Maybe as people get out of work, more bundles will be sold.

But yea, weather isnt that great here in Tokyo today.  It was raining most of the morning until about 4-ish.  Now its sunny outside.  Off to Shibuya. =)

Well with the bundles, there are 100k of the coloured PS3 + SIXAXIS + DS 3 + MGS 4, and an unknown quantity of the gunmetal grey PS3s which were only avaliable from the website (I think Konami's) which have all sold out, but we do not know how many there were

Yea, I think with all the specials going on, we can expect some good numbers... the walmart card, the dualshock, mgs4, etc

Looks pretty unimpressive.

After playing this game for a while, this is everything I've dreamed of for next gen Japanese gaming. While Nintendo fanboys may have some joy when numbers come in, I'm glad Kojima had a vision and went against the mainstream trend. After FF 13 and FF V 13, we may not see this anymore. Maybe MS money-hats will be the only hope to experience this.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
