Just because Phil said that Sony doesn't pay for exclusives doesn't mean they weren't tossing out every other incentive they could think of. Like, say, millions of easy sales in hardware bundles?

My examples primarily highlight attempts by the console companies to broaden their bases.
Comparing MGS4 & FFXIII to ME and BS is like comparing console staples to scraps. IF you wanted to make that comparison you should have them up against things like GeoW2 and Fable2.

Fair enough. Look at their respective effects on install base. UC and ME are hard to measure due to the holiday period, but Bioshock significantly helped 360 sales where R&C was originally labelled as close to bombing.
As for UT3? It did NOT do well.
Star Ocean was being hailed as a high-profile PS3 JRPG exclusive not so long ago.....lets see what happens.

as a soon to be 360 owner, MS CAN PAY FOR EVERY GAME OUT THERE. And trow in a bottle of vodka, so i can enjoy too human when it comes out.

Broaden their bases? If that's the case, then Mass Effect and Bioshock shouldn't be on that list either. ME was funded by Microsoft and Bioshock/Star Ocean was paid for to REMAIN exclusive on the 360 for an undisclosed amount of time. Resistance was funed by Sony and MGS4/FF13 were in all likelyhood paid for to REMAIN exclusive to the PS3. Regardless, you pointed out that Sony is buying all the wrong exclusives, yet you only pointed out the exclusives that has failed. Money Hatting is Money Hatting right? As long as that rule applies, my examples fits yours to a tee.
@ lone, Uncharted is 1st party, resistance and ratchet are basically 1st party
