Forums - Sony Discussion - Konami's way of accepting Sony's Money for MGS4 exclusivity

Commercialism in games is so slutty.

product placement alone would have sony paying konami. paying konami for exclusivity would mean another round of payments. if, as your claiming, konami accepted money from sony for the exclusivity and then did a product placement in the game just so they can have a reason to accept the money, then who ever this konami rep is who closed the deal is a complete idiot.

this thread fails.

Simmer down. The only thing that I've claimed is that Sony paid or had a deal with Konami to get their products in the game. The details regarding MGS4-PS3 exclusivity is unknown to the public but I'd like to believe that Sony had a part in funding MGS4 dev, helping to market and promote the game, and bundling the game with hardware in exhange for exclusivity. I'm only referring to the Sony product placement as a deeper confirmation of exclusivity and how deep Sony got their hands in MGS4 (which is a good thing for PS3 only owners). I personally think it's a win-win for Sony since they get their products promoted and keeps a firm grip on MGS4.

I hate ads in games. Even more so when the publishers put in billboard adds and say they only do it because it "adds realism". Please, if your going to whore out your game, be honest about it. In Nintendo games if they feel the need to put in a billboard for advertisement, they put up a sign that says "Yoshi!" or some other nonsensical or nonexistent business, that always amused me .

Great another MGS4 is bad for some reason other than gameplay and graphics thread. We get it.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Why are some of you (Sony) fans getting so defensive and pissed over this thread? It's not meant to bash Sony or MGS4 in any way. If anything, it confirms MGS4-PS3 exclusivity, which is what you all want right? I personally enjoy ingame ads as long as it's not shoved in the face (which i doubt occurs in MGS4).

Its funny to see this sort of thing in a game. If its done to be funny, or perhaps as an easter egg (like the Dualshock), then its not much of a problem. But Sony Ericsson Cell Phones? Seriously, thats a little ridiculous. Who knew people would still be playing the PSP in 2014.

Custom firmware + emulators = longevity.

But don't tell Sony that! XD

Huh.

First, why would Konami need to pay Sony? By putting the PSP/PS3/etc. in the game, Konami is providing a service for Sony, not the other way around.

Second, this is weird product placement. Why would you put a commercial for the PS3 on a game for the PS3? Presumably, the person already has a PS3. PSP is a little more understandable, but still akward. It's like putting an add for Transformers: The Movie in Transformers: The Movie.

that is a funny picture. And there is nothing wrong with accepting money for exclusivity therefore they will not have to spend as much of their own money for the game.

Do you really think that Konami would grant exclusivity to Sony for a couple of product placements?  Really?

Thanks for the input, Jeff.
