There seems to be so many JRPG fans on vgchartz. If this is representative of the gaming population why don't RPGs sell on par with other genre's (S-E is the exception). even Persona 3 with great critical acclaim doesn't have sales to match its status. Discuss...

Its a niche genre where MOSt Hardcore fans are present.....and Vg chartz being a gaming website will have hardcore gamers

 No hate, from what I can tell, just indifference. RPGs in general aren't anywhere near as huge outside of Japan as they are within. Although a lot of Western games incorporate RPG-esque qualities (stats and the like). And I don't think Western RPGs outsell their Japanese counterparts on a consistent basis in the West.

It doesn't seem like it from reading this site but excellent games like Persona 3 (PS2) can't even reach 0.5 million but stuff like Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 on PS3 which has only 13 mil consoles sold have already broken that threshold

 People should realize that JRPGs aren't as niche as it seems to be.  The reason why Persona 3 didn't sell better despite critical acclaim is a combination of two things:

1)It has a very Japanese feel

2)It got virtually no marketing

Although those observations are true, most gaming websites listed it as a candidate for best PS2 game for 2007. Still, it sold what...0.21mil. thats just plain pathetic.

I could have sworn that Mass Effect got a vast majority of its sales in North America and Fable was the fastest selling Xbox game when it came out if I remember correctly
