if trends began in Japan....Ps3 wouldn't be a blockbuster success in Europe

This is the "official last chance" because you said so? I mean..., I heard this "last chanve" so many times before. Just get use to it MS will keep on hiting the iron, until you have grandsons. Let it go already, they wont give up, fact!

I don't see why any of you guys think this is about Japan at all. Even for the oh-so-woefully misnamed JRPGs (yes, I'm one of those snobbish people who don't acknowledge them as being RPGs) their sales mostly come from other regions. This move is far more likely aimed at expanding the player base for the genre in countries whose markets are lucrative enough to support rising development costs. Releasing on 360 first simply serves to put it in front of a market that would traditionally be less inclined to buy such games in order to catch sales from those who own both HD consoles and bloat the 360 sales numbers for PR purposes.

A side note: I have massive disrespect for anyone who refers to Microsoft or Sony as "M$" or "$ony" without referring to the other the same way. They're both out to make money, and neither is more so than the other.

Following up on my last post:

http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=Japan&game1=Final+Fantasy+XII+-+PS2&reg2=Japan&game2=Dragon+Quest+VIII+-+PS2&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=100

As you can see, Dragon Quest is a *much* bigger deal than Final Fantasy in Japan. Final Fantasy is Square-Enix's #2 RPG in Japan, Dragon Quest is #1. That's why Dragon Quest is moving to Nintendo platforms.

So I guess this confirms my earlier posts.

And why people seem to get upset if a company invests in a hobby we love?
"hating how MS throws money at developers" and yet one loves video games? Spot the weirdeness in such statement!

And I don't have any problem with eastern culture but what seems odd to my eyes is the godifing of Japanese..., it's almost pitfull.

That's the point I'm trying to make. The trends begin in Japan then work thier way over to the other teritorries. It is not like this with every sigle item though, FPS is not like this, but I think with many gaming trends it is. So, the ps3 is doing well in Europe because it is an HD machine and has a more favorable public image than microsoft. IMO the Japenese are not impressed with the HD machines and are looking for a different system (wii, ds, even psp to some extent). As Japan becomes this way so to will the other territories. Now, I may be wrong and the ps3 may take off in japan, but I don't think it will. I believe with time that MS and Sony will ldefeat eachother in the HD area (which is fine by microsoft) and the wii will come out on top. But again, I am not saying that I am the only scenario that can happen, this is just what I believe.

totally agree, it's almost pathetic. And the OP will have to excuse me but seeing his posts today after the Xbox JRPG event, it seems almost like there's some kinda rule who forbids any company to invest in whatever it wants. Like some old fashioned kinda thought that one must have a PS to play a certain genre of game which doesn't exist.
MS is investing in the buisness, maybe Sony should do the same.

You've missed Microsoft's whole point.

Making money in this venture is obviously positive and they've been profitable in a few quarters, but most of that is taking a backseat to hurting Sony and establishing themselves in the media center environment. Whether or not Star Ocean 4 sells a lot of consoles is gravy as it's a brutal blow to PS3 fans.

The business is about making money. To shell out all that cash for a "brutal blow" is stupid. Why do you think Sony isn't throwing cash around? Because they are trying to make a profit. After finally attining profitability, M$'s answer is to throw money at games that probably would've been multiplatform anyway. This is why Sony is probably just standing by. SO4 will come to PS3 no matter who tells you otherwise except M$ has gone as far as to spend more money than the profits attinable by the game's sales. I'm starting to theink this console war is about Bill Gates desire to win somebody rather than a business. With Sega'a funds, M$ would've been out of the industry before now.

Your missing the whole point. Microsoft feels by defeating the playstation in japan that it will hurt the PS brand everywhere. Trends begin there in gaming. Second, the whole idea of the xbox is to keep sony from having a multimedia center in the living room that competes heavily with microsoft. IF the PS brand went like sony wanted with no compitition from MS then MS would loose alot of its other products as well. Remember this is just not gaming this is the much more to these companies.

So, microsoft killing sony in japan is the goal, making money on the way to doing this is just a bonus. By defeating sony's multimedia hub MS believes it will have more profibility long term. This is a spend money to make money later scenario.

Attacking the PS brand will not cahnge Japanese attitude towards the Xbox. I'm even beginning to doubt that DQIX can save the 360 in Japan. Japanese will probably boycott the game like the Ubisoft whiners. The thing is PS4 has a chance to recuperate in Japan and PSP and PSP2 will shine but Xbox will never penetrate the market. The brand started off on the wrong foot by wondering why the Japanese won't play Halo.

DQIX on 360 would only make the Japanese lose respect for S-E just as they're disgusted with Sakaguchi. Check out how the FF creator's games did in Japan.
