There IS a big userbase for Wii bigger than both combined

If these were on wii EACH ONE was million seller to a 2 million seller

If they were on PS3 EACH ONE was above 800K to 1.5 Million

Now that they are on 360 they won't pass 500K......if they're lucky they will do 600K at most. or completely BOMB like Blue Dragon.

These developers are locking out their old audience and not going for the console of choice in Japan! the Wii!

Maybe.  Maybe not.  There really hasn't been a big RPG on the Wii yet.  So i'm not sure you can really conclude that the JRPG base has moved to the wii...

It's very likely.   However it's also possible they are still mostly holding on to their PS2s.  What with the PS2 still getting quality RPGs like Persona 4.

I mean Dragon Quest Swords "kinda" counts... and while Wii seems like the best bet because of it... and the masive userbase advantage.  If I were a JRPG maker i would probably still stick till PS2... MAYBE PS2/Wii multi platform unless someone like Microsoft paid me.

I think JRPG makers are hestiant about the Wii because motion controls really do nothing for JRPGs.

There are already quite some RPGs announced for Wii.

Tales of Symphonia: DotNW (apperantly already 150.000 pre-orders)
Shiren the Wanderer 3 (sold a decent 65.000 first week in Japan)
Fragile
Oboro Muramasa Youtoden (Odin Sphere spiritual successor)
Final Fantasy: The Crystal Bearers
Project O (SimRPG)
Monster Hunter 3 (RPGish)

Rumoured: Kingdom Hearts 3, Suikoden 6 and Skies of Arcadia 2 (I know they're just rumours, but a lot of rumours have proven to be true).

Looks like it is a timed exclusive according to IGN

Star Ocean 4 was announced today as being in development for the Xbox 360. But as we specified during our blog from Microsoft's big RPG press conference in Japan, the game wasn't strictly referred to as an Xbox 360 exclusive title.

So is the game coming to the PS3 as well?

Square Enix producer Yoshinori Yamagishi cleared things up during a roundtable interview session that followed the press conference. Asked if the game is 360-only, he said, "We cannot announce anything on that. We can say that it will be released first [on the Xbox 360]. Whether we'll release it on the PS3 is undecided. We may release it, we may not."

Looks like, as with Last Remnant, 360 owners get this Square Enix epic first, but, as with Namco Bandai's Tales of Vesperia, PS3 owners may get their own version in the future as well!

Bad news for PS3 owners

Sounds like a timed exclusive contract with benchmarks.

In otherwords... it's an exclusive game unless it doesn't hit a requsite sales total after a couple months... then, it can be released by them as a time exclusive.

If it was just a pure timed exclusive they would of just said they weren't going to... not that they haven't made any decisions.

Maybe that was what happened with Eternal Sonata as well... and that's why it's Japan only.... it didn't hit the benchmarks in japan but did elsewhere.

Good thing I own a 360...

Why is MS buying so many JRPGs? Not like it'll help them in Japan.

Considering it takes time to port the game after the decision is made, this means that even in the best case it would be a timed exclusive for quite long.

Did it cross your mind that there are a lot of RPG-lovers outside of Japan?

Now I think of it:  that's probably a reasonable chunk of the PS2 install base that Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft want to have.

!!!

This makes following VGChartz software sales that much more important :)

The official site only says for Xbox 360. No mention of any other system.

Mil. Sellers:

Wii:      25 titles       101.4 mil total    avg 4 mil per title

PS3:     14 titles      28.6 mil total    avg ~2 mil per title

360:     41 titles      89.8 mil total   avg  >2 mil per title

Even though I like Sony, the way they are acting in their home market and especially in regards to retaining key exclusive games they deserve to get their asses handed to them. As an rpg fan myself it is frustrating beyond belief to know that the ps3 has been out for as long as it has and that to date it has virtually zero jrpgs...... proceeds to bang head on the keyboard

@ Benga

Saw your above post.

Ever play MH? It's NOT a RPG.
