Forums - Gaming - Who really has the better graphics?

Okay im sorry if this has been posted before but I have a serious question. Who really has the better graphics of the 2 systems. I own a ps3 so im not biased at all. I' m starting to see that all 3 of gamespots graphical comparisons have the Xbox 360 showing better graphics.

I have also came across a few articles that sites and developers has stated that the xbox 360 gpu is superior to the rsx.

Mostly all the game trailers videos have showed that Xbox 360 having the better graphics

So i have a few questions..

Is it true that 360 GPU is superior to that of the PS3 RSX?

Does blu-ray have any affect to graphics like it does to movies??

Is the excuse true that all ps3 owners use which is that they make a game for 360 and port it over to the ps3?

Are multiplatform games always going to look better on 360?

And finally, everyone knows that ps3 has a powerful cpu called the cell but does it help contribute to the graphics and making the gpu more powerful than the 360?

Have to ask someone else

Does blu-ray have any affect to graphics like it does to movies??

No just provides a larger storage, though in theory they could fit better textures on the disc

In many cases

Are multiplatform games always going to look better on 360?

Not neccessarily, some recent ones, such as BP, which were deved for PS3 look arguably better, but more experience on PS3 might make them better

And finally, everyone knows that ps3 has a powerful cpu called the cell but does it help contribute to the graphics and making the gpu more powerful than the 360?

 Sorry, not entirely sure

Most people I have read articles by consider the 360 GPU to be marginally better. It's definitely more flexible.

No.

The bad ports seem to start on the 360. If a game is programmed for the PS3 and then ported to the 360, both versions usually look on par with each other.

Are multiplatform games always going to look better on 360?

I doubt it.

It can't make the GPU more powerful but it can offload some of the GPU work and theoritically, the PS3 should be able to display graphics superior to the 360.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

The PS3 is more powerful, but it is very difficult to fully utilize.

Realistically ...

Both systems are producing similar quality graphics at similar resolutions with similar frame rates which will (probably) remain the case for the rest of the generation. It is possible that one of the systems may be more powerful than the other, but that would probably only result in games having a slight improvement in graphical quality with a slight improvement in resolution and a slightly better framerate; which is nothing to write home about ...

The general consensus is that the 360's GPU is superior to the PS3's.

Blu Ray has zero effect on a game's visuals.

My way of looking at it is that until the PS3 proves on a constant that it can cater for games significantly ahead of what the 360 is capable of, it cannot rightfully be called the more powerful console.

The 360 is providing the better multiplatform experience, whether that's down to bad development or if it's down to the console itself - you be the judge.

The 360 is more flexible making it better.

Blu-ray only helps in storage space which give more space for developers to make better texture codes.

Yes, because the 360 and ps3 are very different.

Are multiplatform games always going to look better on 360?

NO, but if the lead platform is 360, then maybe.

And finally, everyone knows that ps3 has a powerful cpu called the cell but does it help contribute to the graphics and making the gpu more powerful than the 360?

If i remember right, Naughty Dog developer said that they used like 20-30% of the cell which helped make the graphics better, because it took some of the load off of the CPU, but only the future can tell because the cell chip is still a mysteries when i comes to developing for.

The RSX reportedly has more brute power than the Xenos, but the Xenos is a much more flexible GPU because of it's unified shaders, so developers can harness it's power easier. As far as development purposes go, the consensus is that the 360's GPU is superior.

As for the porting issue, older titles that were ported from the 360 to the ps3 are generally the ones that have problems.  Games that were ported from the ps3 to the 360 (Burnout Paradise)or games that were developed simultaneously one each (CoD4) are generally equal between the two (sometimes ever so slightly favoring the ps3, ala Burnout).

As for which system is more powerful, I don't think that will ever be determined.  However, I point you towards Uncharted and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for a demonstration of what the ps3 is capable of.  The general consensus is that Uncharted looks better than the console versions of CoD4, and it runs in native 720p, whereas CoD4 is 600p.
