I agree, buying the game cheaper and getting free DLC beats out Prestige mode in my eyes.

----
@Naznatips - You can really get 50 people? Is this only on specific maps? I thought ground war with 18 people on the PS3 was intense, I can't imagine how crazy it would be for the PC considering how crazy Battlefield 2 can be with 64 and maps that are MUCH larger. Still, at least the keyboard, mouse, and less lag would be more fun for me on the PC than it was with the controller and a slight latency delay on the PS3.

I traded in my PC copy of COD4 and got it for the 360, Prestige Mode had me sold! Has that been brought in yet on the PC with 1.6?

No. Prestige Mode is your consolation prize for the higher price, lower graphics, far lower server cap, lack of the Winter version of the Crash map, and costly DLC. But hey, if giving up all that was worth having a little star next to your name everytime you restart from lvl 1 more power to you.

I just got done playing Broadcast with Benkenobi. It rocks. I get a distinct Goldeneye feeling while playing it.

Honestly I actually prefer it on the 360 to the PC, I don't know it's extremely rare for me to prefer a predominantly PC FPS on a console but with COD4 I get a much more enjoyable experience.

I think it's partly down to XBox Live though, finding any kind of a decent community with the PC version is pretty difficult, absolutely no one bothers to talk or use headsets.

I don't know, I sometimes consider that to be quite a nice thing.

Though there are cool people out there sometimes...

Plus sometimes the lower server cap proves it's worth - play a 32+ man game on Shipment and try telling me it's fun - you absolutely cannot! ;)

Well, as for the mics/community it depends on the size of the server.  On a 20 man server almost everyone will have a mic.  ON a 30+ man server it would just be hell to argue with everyone so no one uses them (which is fine with me, I love the intensity).

Also, hell yes 50 man shipment is fun.  Especially in FFA  It's absolutely hilarious.  You constantly spawn and die.  If you turn on martyrdom sometimes you'll get like 6 kills at once.  If you're really lucky sometimes you'll make it out of the corpse pile, then you get to sit there and unload on the spawn point yourself.  I love doing it.

@IllegalPaladin, 50 people is the "normal" limit but some go even higher.  You can play 50 people on any map, even the tiny box-shaped Shipment as described above.  I usually like 30-40 people, but 50 can be really intense.  CoD4 on PC is almost like 2 games.  You have the tactical "everyone-with-headsets" style game if you play on low pop servers and the insane "blow the crap out of everything" 50 man servers.  Then the 30-40 man servers in between.

There's not much to talk about in COD4 anyway...it's not quite a team game.

You can form up with a few guys and own if you're coordinated, but for the most part, you're on your own and you'll be dead in a half minute anyway.

Play a TF2 game on PC and you'll hear people talking lightly the whole time.

...or singing apparently.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I'm thinking it's about time to pick this game up. Now the big question: get it in-store or on Steam?

Edit: OMG that video!  Lol!

I agree.  If I want a team game I'm gonna play TF2.  When I play CoD4 I'm looking for crazy action.

I'd get Steam for sure...the automatic updates combined with the Steam Community overlay makes it great for chat.  edit:  I forgot you can use the Community overlay even if you buy a non-Steam game anyway.

Except for today I guess...the overlay causes the game to crash. ಠ_ಠ
Should be patched within a few days though.

You can have the overlay in a non-steam game.  Just add it to steam.  I was pretty late in discovering this, but it's a cool feature.  Automatic updating is a great advantage for steam though.  The other advantage is that you're giving a lot more money to the developer than you would buying through retail.

funny how it says "free", when maps, guns and stuff like that used to be free all the time... how times have changed

Not for PC gamers...nothing's really changed.
