Forums - Nintendo - Wii Storage - Another hint

I swear, if that’s all it takes, and Nintendo has had us waiting this long for no reason…I may actually go insane.

Well, go commit yourself because it's that simple.  It's all in the software... the hardware is all in place.  A speedy mass storage driver and flexible number of Wii Menu pages (maybe a categorization option) would be all you really need to make the whole experience work.

If Nintendo is uncomfortable with the idea of a Wii HDD being plugged into a PC and read, they could always require the drive to be reformatted with an encrypted file system keyed to one Wii, like Cable DVRs use.  But then again, if they were uncomfortable with the user accessing Wii data on their PC, they'd scramble the SD cards too.

Also, I'm one of those whose Wii memory is full.  I've spend many hours just shuffling data and channels around to enable the purchase of new software, and I've had it.  If Nintendo wants any more money from their best customers (those who have already purchased enough software to fill their Wii) then they had better make it easy for us to buy.

I think Nintendo should focus now on memory. How much does the Wii console have? I think 512MB. Make it like 1GB.

Even though I still have over 1000 blocks left, it's shrinking from the channels and games Im getting. VC I really dont care about.

Aside from them not being able to physically add another 512MB of flash RAM to everyones console, 1GB is nothing.   I've filled mine in under 2 years.  With DLC coming, that other 512 MB would be gone in half the time.

Open the SD card slot to SDHC spec, allocate direct access and be done with it.    We'd instantly have a theoretical 2 TB's of allocatable space (maximum size of an SD card) and much faster transfer speeds.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

^but Wii doesn't support SD of larger than 8GB (I think) so unless that can be done by an update too?

Although 8MB would be plenty for me.

The Wii don't support SD bigger than 2GB to tell the truth...

I wonder what Nintendo would want to use the USB ports for.

How many times do I have to clear this nonsense up?

YES IT DOES!

The Wii supports SDHC, just not on the Wii menu yet (other then reading). I have SDHC cards and can save and read from them in SSBB. So SSBB has the SDHC driver. The Wii menu supports HALF of the SDHC driver. We will get the update that allows full access.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

HOLY CRAP! That's new to me =O

"Just kidding guys! We actually put 10gb flash memory on the Wii and only made 512mb accessable. We wanted to see how long it would take before you got seriiously pissed."

lol. Um wasnt it obvious? And to the main topic point to the question whay are you so surprised that they could do it with a software upgrade? The Wii dies have two USB ports and the SD drive obviously Nintendo doesnt want to allow us acess bc of probally pirating but for them it would be easy to allow storage on there but playing directly from that memory might be more difficult...

"Like you know"

I think Wii should get more memory to hold better games with better graphics (probably unlikely). PS360 has lots of memory for better games which Wii is lacking.
