Forums - Nintendo - Anyone here that boycotting Ubisoft was pointless/useless right now?

Not to spin this off-topic but how many people supporting this Ubi boycott shop at Wal-Mart?

Just curious. Because if you do, get yer friggin' priorities in line.

You want a company worth boycotting? Look no further than the one owned by our *least* favorite Walton family.

I do, but I only buy the loss leaders.  Does that count?

The boycott is also an image thing, as well as a money thing. A boycott would need to be pretty large to hurt wal-mart, but the store has long had an image problem already.

Ubisoft may be large, but a reputation for cheapness and a lack of concern for quality would hurt a game developer more than a long-entrenched store chain. Again, EA wasn't above trouble with the way they treated their employees, and I think they had to settle a suit about it.

So Ubisoft cannot be above somethig that would hurt their reputation. A boycott, even if it doesn't cost them much money, would be bad publicity.

This thread has helped me reach 2 conclusions.

1. DMJ is an ass.

2. A lot of people don't understand the word "boycott."

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

I actually thought Tenchu 4 would strengthen some people's ideals when it came to the boycott. After all, this is just No More Heroes all over again, especially if they refuse to advertise the game.

I do find it humorous (but sad) that the Ubi defenders seem to be whining louder than anyone else. You whine when people boycott them, and now you whine when some people back out of a boycott. That's simply bitching for the sake of bitching.

Honestly curious. What you you think it's supposed to mean here?

How's that? What is boycott supposed to mean?

Boycott means you don't buy any of their products. Simply buying things you want and "boycotting" thing you don't want isn't a boycott. That's what everyone does all the time with every company and product. We call it a "market."

If you seriously want to send a message, you have to boycott Tenchu to put pressure on From software to ditch Ubisoft.

Now I suppose if you scream about the reason for the boycott from the rooftops, you could hurt Ubisoft's reputation. But still, that's not a boycott. That's just bad word of mouth. A boycott is supposed to strong-arm the company by directly impacting their bottom line. You aren't directly hurting their bottom line unless you don't buy the games you would otherwise.

This Ubisoft boycott is like a trucker protesting high gas prices by only buying diesel, and then painting "boycott gas" on the side of his trailer as he drives cross country.

How do you sure that Ubisoft will not advertise this game?  This is one established matured franchise asides Red Steel for the Wii that Ubisoft will publish. No More Heroes was a niche game, this one wasnt. Theres still cult following on this game moreso on Beyond Good and Evil with sequels from Ps1 to Ps2. Do you mean Ubi just waste its time and send representative to Japan just for this game to fail? WHAAAATTT?!! It makes no sense!

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

Ubisoft is in for a quick buck, their Wii support shows that, so no advertising from them is what we all can expect.

Get another developer for Tenchu. I see that. And it wouldn't hurt NMH, because that game has long turned a profit already. So anything with a Ubisoft label, anything, is out.

I'm still waiting until E3, but that's what I'll do if they don't acknowledge traditional gamers play on the Wii.
