But isn't a billion dollars a small price to pay in exchange for the laughter of a 32 year old child?

*turns on XBOX 360*

LOL reminds me of a similar quote from an article thats been my most favorite:

Now, I don't want to be the type to say "I told you so." Let me instead just say that a couple of years back I made a prediction about the gaming industry and that my prediction is on the verge of coming true and that I now wish to emphasize the fact that I told you about it beforehand.

Who am I? I am the creator of a certain video game console. I don't want to toot my own horn, but let's just say that profits from this machine were four billion dollars higher than the Microsoft XBox.

My console consisted of a plastic milk crate with a kitten placed inside. The controller was a wooden rod that could be used to poke the kitten. I sold zero of these consoles, which cost me zero to manufacture. Therefore my profits were zero. The XBox, however, LOST four billion dollars. Click the red words if you don't believe me. I'll wait.

Ah, I remember reading that back in the day, and realizing every single thing I owned and everybody I knew made more money than MicroSoft's gaming division.

I personnaly fail to see how putting a PC into a small box, selling them and then getting royalties on games and on live subscription can make you loose money....

Lots of ways you can do it.  For example you could try:

Putting a $600 PC in a box and selling it for $300.

Or try paying millions of dollars to developers to make exclusives for your box and then not have those exclusives sell.

Or you could try: putting all the parts as close to each other as possible and not doing enough testing so that your product has a 30% fail rate at launch.

Aurally examine my music!

Wear gaudy colours or avoid display. It's all the same.

Be warned, I will use walls of polysyllables and complex clauses as a defence against lucid argument.

Wand to read a creepy thread?

Sony has nearly $10 billion catching up to do with Nintendo. That's nearly 20% of Sony's entire market value. I'm pretty sure $10 billion is more than the PS1 & PS2 profits combined.

MS isn't doing much better.

And chances are, Nintendo is going to pad a few more billion to their lead after this fiscal year.

Well the difference is that the Microsoft Cat cost a lot of money but it is making Microsoft several hundred million dollars a quarter. I don't think his cat is that profitable.

Tease.
