Just to set your mind at ease, it's fairly well documented that the difference between 1080p and 1080i is indistinguishable on TVs less than 40 inches, unless your face is pressed against the screen.
Do you not have external speakers? The speakers on my TV don't work, which was the secret to its cheapness, but the guy threw in free speakers and a receiver so it didn't matter. I hate all TV speakers anyway, so it was perfect for me. If it can save you any money, I'd go for the best screen you can get, and get your own speakers later. But that's just me and I'm crazy and I'm buying my shit off CraigsList and get no warranties or anything.

No I don't have external speakers. I am spending 700 dollars, plus tax. I don't have a lot of money left over for addons, lol.
