The Cell is a completely new and revolutionary architecture and tapping into that kind of power requires a new revolutionary approach. Developing algorithms and engines that can tap into that much power in a new format takes years.  So only second and third generation games will really show the kind of power that the PS3 has, and only from the best and brightest minds.

Well, I believe that the ps3 will double sales...maybe even triple during the first week of mgs4 and you look at current sales fo the 360, they are slowing down DRASTICALLY and the PS3 sales will increase 10 FOLD durng release...so it is very feasible

Same thing they did with the PSP, they locked the Cell's power up. 

The only way that it can be harness is if Microsoft concedes defeat in the console race.  Then T3H C311's power will be harnessed into super-energy, that will power the earth, and your car, so you won't spend a dime on gas again.

This is partially true. Remember when everyone said the PS3 didn't have a scaler? Well, Sony unlocked the scaler so that now developers can scale games to 1080p even if they don't render natively in 1080p. Although it's worth noting that there's no reason for PS3 games not to just be in 1080p, unless the developers are just LAZY!

The Cell is limited only by human understanding. Sony couldn't release all of the information for the Cell because they need the PS3 installed base to grow first, to be about as big as the Xbox 360's. That way, devs will give it their full attenion that it deserves because those games cannot possibly be cross-platform between the Xbox 360 and the PS3 due to the huge power disparity between the Cell and the lowly Xenons.

Think about it: what would have happened if developers were expected to make games much better than Xbox 360 games when the PS3 launched? They would have avoided it and just made 360 games because there wasn't enough PS3s on the market to justify that kind of expense! Now that the PS3 is getting an advantage in sales and will soon blow by the 360 for installed base, they can have the developers work full tilt on the system!

Also, people will get a tiny glimpse of the Cell's potential when MGS 4 is released and they'll realize that buying a 360 would be a terrible mistake because the platform simply cannot keep up with Blu Ray.

It looks like it's gonna be a great summer for the PS3, but just imagine what next year will be like when everyone has HD TVs and as they all realize they need Blu Ray.  Blu Ray is very close to widespread public understanding of what it is and why they need it.  One more huge Sony marketing boost combined with the high proliferation of HD TVs will boost PS3 sales beyond belief for many members of this forum.

I think that we will see a boost in japan for a week or so and a small boost everywhere els for the same time period. Japan its easy to see why we have the boost. EU have just had to very nice bundle packs that have come out back to back and the boost it got from them. Then we have NA and the way I see it we wont have that big of a boost simply because people dont have the money to spend 500 bucks on a system no matter how good the deal might be. I just think like always when we have big games like this people get carried away with how sales will be and throw numbers out there that arnt really going to happen. Anyway theres my 2 cents we will see if Im right soon.
