It might be possible considering ps3 can now get support in Japan and that might lead the ps3 to sell nearly double the 360, dont forget america and Europe too

Considering the buzz and the repeated wishes and rumors from 360 fans for MGS4 to come to the 360, I'd say that many will make the jump and pick up a PS3 once they realize they will not be able to play it on the 360. Myself, I have never ever played a MGS game. However, I will be picking up MGS4 on day one just because it looks and feels like it should be the "Must Have" game of this generation.
DMeisterJ, that is the only reason that I can see this prediction working out, because of the release of MGS4. There have been many that really want the 80gb bundle and are waiting for that, and many of them will also pick up GTA4 right away or down the road. There are games out now that can convince just about anyone that it's the right time to jump on the PS3 train. In 5 months the PS3 has outsold the 360 by more then a million units, and with a big exclusive game on the horizon for the PS3, and nothing for the 360 until Madden comes out in August, I just don't see sales picking up much for the 360.... And many of the Madden gamers have already moved onto a next gen system, and there will be many who will decide to go to the PS3 as the differences between the two should be minimal (Better be or I will not buy another Madden ever again after last years dog turd of a buggy game). Last year, 360 capitalized on getting out how they were running at 60fps and that the ps3 wasn't even close to that.
My pokemon brings all the nerds to the yard. And they're like, "You wanna trade cards?" Damn right, I wanna trade cards. I'll trade this, but not my charizard.

There's like 10 million people in Japan who want the PS3 and MGS 4 is going to be their reason for getting it. They won't all get it at once, but many of them will get it quickly so the PS3 could very reasonably hit 17 or even 18 million before the 360 finally crosses that 20 million thresh hold. |
Where did you get that number from or is that just a guessssssssssssssssss

That could be the biggest factor there. I have a feeling that many may make the jump for the PS3 and it will return to sell around 50-60k a week in Japan alone. Add that additional 45-55k difference between recent sales of the PS3 in japan to the world wide numbers as well as the boost from the US and others, it could outpace the 360 by 100-200k a week (Yes I know, it's a wide margin, but it's hard to say if the japan market accepts this game which will be HEAVILY marketed in Japan and what those numbers will be) for a week or two, and then settle down to outselling the 360 by 70k weekly throughout the summer with few peaks and valleys in between.

I predict you'll be wrong by a decent portion.
As much as PS3 fanboys want to claim MGS4 will allow the PS3 to ascend itself to the heavens, while the X360 drops into the mire, it's very unlikely.
The X360 has sold roughly 3m units this year versus the PS3's 4.1m or 36.6% higher, on average. That's through thick and thin.
In order for the PS3 to meet your projections, at a minimum, the PS3 is going to have to sell 73.2% higher than the X360 for however many needed weeks.
I really don't see it's lead doubling with the release of MGS4 for any number of consistent weeks. I would agree that the lead over the 360 could indeed be 70-80% for MGS4's launch week, but on average, it's not going to be that much higher.
The 360 will continue to sell well, YOY. It won't take a hit from MGS4. Every fanboy thinks that 1 game will ruin the other's sales. Wii Fit didn't kill PS3/X360 sales. Halo 3 didn't kill Wii/PS3 sales. GTAIV didn't kill Wii sales, ect. Any game merely improves it's own base, as we are too far into the console wars to see any sort of major trend.
And I'll leave with this: PS3 fans thought that since GTAIV was a core PS franchise, that fans would flock to the PS3 and dominate sales. We all know how that went, don't we? Fact was, that the 360's hardware increases were almost in-line with the PS3, and although the PS3 HW percentage was slightly higher, it was certainly not definitive. Why would the top-selling PS2 game of last gen have a decidedly lower effect than a upper/mid tier exclusive?
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
I seriously doubt ps3 Will be selling less than 275,000 a week after mgs4 is out

^_^
it will be a photo finish, but i would think (hope for their sake) that 360 hits 20 mil first.
I'll go ahead and say that PS3 hits 20 million well before 360 hits 25 million.
So you're predicting that the PS3 will outsell the 360 by 73% over the next couple of months? Guess how many single weeks out of the past year the PS3 has accomplished that.
The answer: Zero.

so you think for the rest of the year after MGS4 is released the ps3 will sell over 1 mil a month
brave and not impossible bet - I think it will be fairly close, but the 360 should be able to hit 20mil a little bit ealier
