I'd doubt that... but, stranger things have happened and it's not impossible.

I don't know. I think it's pretty reasonable for PS3 sales to triple between now and a couple of months from now when the 360 hits 20 million units, especially now that the PS3 is about to have its first huge release (everything before this wasn't very huge in comparison).

Will the PS3 sell 2.01 million before the 360 sells 1.16 million? I don't think so. That would mean nearly doubling the 360's sales for the next several months, which I don't think is happening.

I don't see any 360 games on the horizon that would increase sales for it or anything, so the PS3 has nothing big to compete with June 12th. I could see the PS3 selling 15 million before the 360 hits 20. People are probably waiting for the MGS4 bundle so sales are slow now. But once MGS4 is released (exclusively) the PS3 will see a hardware boost, that will either quickly or slowly calm down into more sales.

If we were to look at time, I think it would take about 7 weeks for the 360 to hit 20 million, so the PS3 must outsell it consistently in that timeframe in order to do so.

The PS3 has not sold double the 360 this year worldwide ever. The closest it came was 2/3 when it was 30k short.

I understand you're expecting a boost from MGS4 but I just don't think it'll be as impressive as you are hoping. Especially when you are anticipating it to revive the dead Japanese market. No MGS title ever broke a million in Japan so there's no reason to think that it has the momentum there to actually create a long lasting boost.

unless we get past adjustments that alter current trends there is absolutely no way this happens. PS3 has 3.01 million to go, 360 has 1.16 million to go. Basically PS3 will have to sell 2.5x what the 360 sells to get that, good luck with that prediction.

No kidding. I know about a hundred people in Japan alone that will buy PS3s for MGS4. Really, that translates to millions.  In Japan alone.

This game will sell millions of PS3s, and that's how you'll get 3x as many sales as the 360 over the average next couple of months. There will be a few weeks there where the PS3 and 360 are neck and neck, of course, but the first week MGS 4 comes out, PS3 sales will easily be 5x that of the 360 and then it won't slow down very much, averaging more than 3x 360 sales.

Don't forget that MGS 4 will slow 360 sales down too.

Do you even have any idea how amazing the Cell is? I overheard a developer saying that none of the games out so far have even come close to its limits and that it is basically unlimited. When people can afford the power of the Cell, it will be in computers everywhere. But Microsoft is trying to stop that because they control Windows and they don't want Toshiba processors in their Windows.

X360 will hit 20 million first based on current trends and projected sales rates.

I think the PS3 can hit 15 million before the 360 hits the 20 million mark but thats about it
