I don't think many companies are foolish enough to remain downstream-only for long. That's the most volatile end of the market, where your product has to appeal to a huge demographic instead of a specific one. Eventually we will see products go upstream towards a more refined style. You can see the beginnings of it already with Mario Kart Wii.

Worst case scenario, upscale gaming stays on PC as is the case with many global markets.

As much as I like the PS3, it is very similar to a PC in all aspects other than basic PC functions like user interface and productivity software. I still prefer the use of the PS3 as a media center, even directly compared to WMC because it operates like a set top box with the remote. I have a media center PC with integrated remote and TV functions and it's still not the same in terms of convenience.

The 360 is pretty redundant if you have a gaming PC and are not playing on XBL.

I think it's still way too early to say either is on the endangered species list though.

 Um those are 1st party games that are very niche. How bout a better example is metroid prime 3 which sold pretty well or resident evil 4. 

Why don't you like mario. Zelda is an Action/Adventure. The wii is in no way going to get rid of rpgs. The wii is selling ALOT more in japan than the ps360 and most Jrpgs will go to it. There are a few fpses on the wii, but they aren't whored like they are on the ps360. Zelda is an action/adventure. Why don't you like it? Disaster Day of crisis is an action/ adventure. Mad World is an action game. Look at all the nintendo games. MOst of them half of them are hardcore. Nintendo is trying to introduce a new way of gaming along with keeping the old. Minigames aren't going to kill hardcore gaming. Here if you are truly worried click the first link in my sig and read it. You will know nintendo's plan. 

gta4, halo3, mario galaxy, assassins creed, call of duty 4, super smash brawl, zelda twilight princes, gears of war. all of these games sold more then 5 million each and they are all hardcore games, they wont disappear as long as there are people buying them

If the Wii is not giving you the experience you want, sell it, make some money on it and move on. There are two other consoles that will welcome you and they are free of Mario and any games that are new and different.

The 26,689,999 of us that are left will soldier on somehow.

I'm annoyed at people who think that the dollars they throw at videogames are magically worth more than the dollars other people throw.

Your vote on the direction the videogame market takes is as big as your wallet. Don't expect everybody else to fork out so that the games you want get produced.

@sc94957 I have been playing mario for oh what is it now...20 years? is that possible? I remember getting my first nintendo system, and mario was great, but i am tired of mario.

Zelda still holds my interests, but no, no more playing as a little plumber anymore for me.

I am not saying my dollar is more valuable, but can i be sad that the types of games i enjoy might disapear?
