if consoles fail to the Wii, PC is there laughing at the fact the Wii will never surpass it.

Serious bro, this is a sales chart between Consoles and handhelds why do you always have to put the PC at the discussion?

Cause it's a good fallback arguement since his favorite choice of actual consoles has no chance of catching the Wii.

::chuckle::  I like how the evolution of the Wii naysayer has now tranformed into "But the Wii isn't beating PC"

@sc94957 I have been playing mario for oh what is it now...20 years? is that possible? I remember getting my first nintendo system, and mario was great, but i am tired of mario.

Zelda still holds my interests, but no, no more playing as a little plumber anymore for me.

I am not saying my dollar is more valuable, but can i be sad that the types of games i enjoy might disapear?
And whats wrong with playing as the same character again? It's not like its the same game.

Because people want something different! Is there something wrong with new ips? I think most of his complaints stem from Nintendo not making a lot of new ips that appeal to the hardcore audience.

I also can't believe you critcized him for want some new characters in Nintendo games........

Hmm....where does fear fit into this?

  1. Denial
  2. Anger
  3. Bargaining
  4. Depression
  5. Acceptance

I just don't get why people get so bent out of shape about the Wii being successful. As I have said from the beginning of this generation when the point was intitially raised, as long as there is profit to be made from the "hardcore" games they will survive.

Yes ,on a machine barely capable of outdoing the PS2 and Cube and worse in all the senses to the Xbox 1(online ,graphics ,etc).Thats the problem.

No, on a machine containing certain chips present in the Xbox360 itself, much improved hardware over the GameCube, capable of running PS2 games in it's sleep, and BETTER graphics than the Xbox1, I see no problem.

Wait, not enough space marines.......

Not really a difference. The Wii hasn't been proven to be any better than the XBox yet. There's no need to post touched up Mario Galaxy screens either if you were thinking of doing so.

Shadows.

Not to mention lighing effects. And destructable/morphing backgrounds.

And 4 players on screen at once plus any of 37 assist trophies or (Smash attacks, dozens of weapons, metal suits, etc...)

yet the most hyped games for the comp tend to be sequels and rehashs

i think alot of people need to rember this "thats the pot calling the kettle black "

I do have a love-hate relationship with the Wii. On one side, I feel that the motion controls are, IMO, just gimmicks, and that the graphics suck. On the other side, I appreciate it's appeal to non-gamers-- it's a good ice-breaker for visitors (and everyone who sees it wants to have one).

I guess my problem is matching. Eventually, people will have tastes and have preferences for certain types of games. I feel that the Wii doesn't offer me much. The games I want right now are either on the PS3 or 360. I guess what frustrates me more is that the Wii is only the current gen system that I have.

I usually don't jump on the bandwagon. But I did with the Wii. I had lots of expectations on the motion controls, but realized it was half-baked (but still hoping Star Wars will prove me wrong). I also question the longevity of the games-- after the novelty has worn off, the games aren't interesting to play anymore (but then again, you can argue this case for 360 and PS3 games, too).

Somewhere out there, there's this person who loves every minute playing with the Wii. That person and the Wii have perfect match.

Not for me, though.

If you love core / hardcore games like the GTA, Oblivion, Gears of Wars and stuff, the WII ain't really your thing. I'm saying this for a long time. IMO, the WII is officially a console for the younger, unexperienced gamers and gamers who like to play casual games. Developers are giving an answer about that. Ubisoft producing Raving Rabbids 3 and Baby crap game on the WII, while on the PS3 you have the Prince of Persia and Beyond Good and Evil. I'm not saying the WII doesn't have core games or won't get them, but when they do, or they sell bad, or they're from Nintendo and sell great as the franchise is already known by the Nintendo public (Mario, Zelda). Therefore WII has become less favorite to me and is no longer my favorite console, Playstation 3 is, like the PS2 was over the GC, like PS was over my N64. I don't bother at all that there are casual games being produced. Good for the market, good to get more people into the gaming, but with only a few exceptions, it ain't really my style. I really do like the style of the WII and the idea from the beginning, concerning the console, with using controllers on a complete different way, but the way its turning out to be for... I like a lot less.
What kind of dog is that in your avatar?

@Words of Wisdom

Sadly I'm on my ps3 so I can't copy paste the url, but I believe he's reffering to the DRM and eDRM of the Wii also the AA and specific other features that the proprietary companies involved in making supplying the components of Wii commented on as being similar and in some cases the same as the Xbox360, Grumpy actually took the time to compose a collage of these refferences, it's on the forum somewhere, again I'm on my Ps3 so I can't just copy paste the url. The threads name was:

Bad Graphics is it the Wiis or Lazy Sloppy programing?

In it the english explanation of the chip sets was that it was capable of the level of antialiasing needed to run err, (looking for a safe way to say this) upper end games, much more than what was being offered up until now by 3rd parties. It also had a cache of 10mb fast ram which allows it to do this without breaking a sweat.

Check it out, it's a good read.

The Official Huge Monster Hunter Thread:

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

Every system I have ever owned has had its strengths and weaknesses ...

Right now I would say that the Wii's biggest weakness is third party developers that have their heads up their rear ends. From the begining (Tokyo Game Show 2005) it was clear that Nintendo was producing a system which was going to be far more successful than any system they had made in recent history; by the time E3 2006 rolled around and the line to try the Wii was 6 hours in comparison to a 10 minute line for any PS3 or XBox 360 game these developers should have realized that they needed to produce something for the Wii. Now many developers are years behind where they should be, and they see Nintendo's success without understanding why Nintendo has been successful; certainly, Nintendo's 'Blu-Ocean' games have done well for themself but it is Nintendo's conventional ("Core") games that they have been producing for over a decade that have really shined.

Developers HAVE TO stop seeing Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Mario Party 8, Mario Kart Wii, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Paper Mario, Mario Strikers Charged, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, MySims, and Red Steel as "The Exception" ... These games in content and gameplay style would not be much different from what they're producing for the XBox 360 or PS3 but do create intuitive controlls using the Wiimote and have a decent ammount of effort put towards their visuals.

Certainly Wii Sports, Wii Play, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games, Wii Fit, Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree,  Carnival Games, Wario Ware: Smooth Moves, Rayman Raving Rabbids, and Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 have been very successful but constantly trying to clone the success of other games in a market you don't understand will only end up with you struggingly to define yourself.

At the same time, don't think that my XBox 360 is off the hook ...

Most of the games I have played for the XBox 360 seem to be designed with a "Bigger is Better" mentality and I am often left scratching my head and thinking of the scene in Big where Tom Hanks asks "I don't get it, what is fun about that?"

I don't know of any other medium where ninjas, pirates, space marines, aliens, cyborgs, gangs, etc. are considered mature.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Porn my friend, it always comes down to porn ...

Seriously though, I do think this debate over what kinds of games are mature or not really comes from the ESRB screwing up and calling childishly violent games "Mature." This isn't to say that there are not mature games that are rated "Mature" but they're very rare ...

(Oh yeah, and you forgot Zombies)
