Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 and its struggle with multiplatform FPS visuals

That's a pretty subjective list. Not in terms of the games being significant to the video game market, but to say that those were superior on the PS3.

Burnout Paradise was the only one generally regarded as superior based on what I've read.

GTAIV was a bit of a wash visually although it does run at a lower resolution than the 360 version.

DMC4 was a wash although the nitpickers seemed to think it looked better on the 360 by examining still shots, which is important since everyone likes to play their action platform games frame by frame, right?!

Assassin's Creed... I have no intention of finishing this on one platform, let alone two. PS3 version supposedly had more glitches, but I have yet to experience a single one personally.

CoD4, as far as I can tell are so similar as to be essentially the same. Neither one is better.

I bought 3/5 of those for the PS3.

Still waiting on the verdict for which version to buy for Grid although DiRT, using the same game engine, looked and played better on the PS3.

Uhm No.

quite an arguement you got there... greenmedic00 is probably right. The point is this is hardly an issue anymore. If someone just has a PS3 and wanted Quake, they would get it. It's their first port to PS3. The 2nd time around is far easier and everone else is getting it right. IW did it the first time with CoD4.

Really?!?

Burnout Paradise City - minor advantage

Devil may Cry 4 - same!

COD 4 - same!

Assassins Creed - 360 is better.
Gamespot - Xbox 360 Versus PlayStation 3 Graphics Comparison: Round 3 - Assassins Creed
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6191251/p-1.html?sid=6191251&page=1
"The game looks beautiful on both systems, but we did notice that the Xbox 360 has sharper textures with better 3D-depth simulation readily noticeable in the flat cobblestone streets. Edges look great in both games, as do graphical effects such as shadows, smoke, and lighting. The extra time it takes to install the game on the PlayStation 3 doesn't seem to give the console any benefits over the Xbox 360 in initial or subsequent loads of the game."

GTA IV - 360 is better.
360 - native 720p, AAx2
PS3 - 640p, no AA

http://www.gamespot.com/features/6191251/p-3.html
"The PlayStation 3 has a nearly 10-minute-long installation sequence, which helps slightly in terms of in-game loads. However, saved games take equivalent periods of time to load on both machines. If we had to definitively pick a version, we'd go with the 360's rendition of the game for its crisper visuals"

Eurogamer - PS3 GTA IV almost certainly 630p
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=134736
"The PlayStation 3 version of Grand Theft Auto IV almost certainly runs in 630p ... However, Eurogamer's Face-Off compiler and resident big-brain Rich Leadbetter says that while the PS3 version may be a touch blurrier, it's not necessarily inferior. Far from it, in fact ... the PS3's lower resolution serves to mask a lot of the nasty after effects"

ETQW is OpenGL, not DirectX. id Tech 4 is OpenGL.

I'd blame Z-Axis / Activision Underground for the bad port. Nerve did the X360 version. However, while the PS3 version is technically inferior, the X360 is inferior gameplay-wise. Nerve dumbed down some features from the original PC version. I think they are both bad ports (haven't tried though) but the game itself is awesome.

Sony had to try and be clever didnt they, with their cell processor....damn it!

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

all them games u listed were ports and games that were lead developed on 360. nothing to do with ps3 not being able to handle them

the console doesnt struggle at all, look at cod4 that was identicle to 360 version simply because they were both developed in tandem.

as far as i have seen ps3 can do grafix better than 360, on multiplatform games that were lead developed on 360 then ported to ps3 obviously the game is gonna take a hit.

its funny you mentioned unreal tournamnet 3 on 360, trying to make people belive 360 multiplatforms are better, thats not a port it was developed seperatly, although it has some added extras like split screen, it doesnt have an open mod support

Devil may Cry 4 - same! ps3 version superior, loads times are absolute minimal, and looks ultra crisp

COD 4 - same! dedicated servers on ps3, also free

Assassins Creed - 360 is better.

gamespot gave both 360 and ps3 version of game a 9/10, but during the comparison shots as expected gamespot didnt set the rgb setting on the ps3, hence the ps3 looking a bit washed out, ive played both versions and they are the same apart from what fanboy eyes want to see.

taken from gamespot review "There are few differences between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. PS3 owners are blessed with a slightly more solid frame rate, although the 360 version features a little more contrast in the lighting(set the rgb setting and it will look the same), so it's pretty much a wash. But regardless of which platform you go with, you'll have an amazing and unforgettable game. Assassin's Creed is the kind of game you tell your friends about, and one that should be in your collection. "

no mention of a more realistic look to the game on ps3, no mention of really bad pop-up in places on 360 version

videogamer, totally fanboy site. no mention of really bad pop-up in places on 360 version, they dont know what there talking about, majority or reviewrs are agreed ps3 version has the technical edge.
