Forums - General - My old work are trying to sue me

Recently my job of 2 years sold up and I was left unemployeed, then I got a new job at a Thai restaurant, I stayed there for 2 weeks and left because the owner (co-owner) was underpaying staff and stealing tips, and also filling up branded alcohol bottles with bad cheap stuff, when I left I gave bugger-all notice (which is fine seeing as I was never on a contract and was only there for 2 weeks), I just told the Chef (other co-owner) that the chef was an awesome cook and I'll work you in the future if you ever happen to get rid of the other co-owner, which the chef is trying to do because he knows he's a crook,

So then I get a phone call from the A-hole co-owner and he leaves a voice message saying go and get the best lawyer I can get because he's sueing me,

What for I really don't know, but probably something to do with him being upset that I caught him out as a crook, I never spread the word of his horrible deeds, but just discussed them with the chef when the chef would have a bitch about him.

I really have no idea what grounds I could be sued for.

He's just angry he lost a good employee.

get some 'witnesses' to the fact that he does most all of those things, and you really could likely get him to settle, becuase well... he should be shitting himself if you threaten that. Also, if you wanna have some fun, send some letters to the companies that he is mis-labling their beer, and they will stop dealing with his place, likely removing all alchol sales ability.

There won't be any sueing going on - and if there is, he is going to be in a lot more trouble than you could possibly be. You haven't broken a contract, or any laws... so I wouldn't stress about this one.

Sounds like everyone should leave and start a new company...

I seriously doubt there's anything to worry or even give a second thought about unless you get a letter from his lawyer.

People use the sue card like idiots.

90% chance no lawyer will seriously look at his "case" against you

It would still be fun to err... send a anonomus letter to the company they buy their beer from, and have them send a secret... shopper, to see if it's not correct, and if it's not, stop selling to them... XD

Totally.  I hate it when people try and pull s**t like that to scare or intimidate people...though in this case I don't see the point unless it made him feel like a big bad dude...

Normally they do the threatening to try and stop people from doing something like leaving, not after the fact lol.

A lawyer will take a case that anyone wants to put together... because if they lose or win in the end they generally get paid.

Dont worry about it, people say they will sue all the time, even in austrailia defamation of charecter and slander is hard to prove, Nowadays it has to be really bad/life threatening or hardship, He cant even sue you for retaliation, because of what you have told us, i wouldnt worry about it, its just a verbal threat, just document times/dates what he says and does.....and then do not worry about it!
