like a good film director, a good game designer brings something absolutely unique to his games.
so who do you believe are the best game designers(i.e games have best individuality)
my list goes like this
1)Shigeru Miyamoto. no surprises there.for someone to have imagined so many different worlds, and being the first to implement some of the bread and butter game mechanics ,and having defined so many genres, hes the king of the hill for my money
2)Tim schafer. again an obvious choice, but someone whose games really cant be enjoyed by everyone(unlike Miyamoto).games like grim fandango, monkey island(1 and 2),pschonauts really stay with you after a play through.
3)Yoshio Sakamoto/Gunpei yokoi. these guys deserve mention on the basis of just one series(unlike the above 2) .this choice might be a bit biased but i believe the 2-d Metroid games were all absolutely amazing and amongst them they even have a contender for the best game of all times(super metroid). non-linear gameplay was a stroke of genius
honorable mention:- the Black Isle guys
