Forums - Nintendo - Mario Kart sold out everywhere in my town

That must really suck, because where i live all the stores i have been too over the past month have always had lots of mario karts and the plastic wheels too.

This game has been in and out of stock around here -- the guy at Best Buy said they had 'hundreds' recently. So I don't know where they hell they're all going, but I certainly didn't expect them to keep selling out.

The sales this week should be truly amazing for Nintendo, with all the reports of Mario Kart Sold out and the launch of wii fit in NA along with the extra large supply of wii's this should be a great week.  I wonder if Nintendo is having a hard time producing enough game disc's to meet demand for their system.

@trestres, where i live will have no help to any member who is posting here, i don't think they will fly around NA or the world just to grab Mario Kart.  Maybe i'm just lucky, or maybe stores where i live receive larger amounts of wii products compared to other locations.

There's no reason to have a shortage of discs. I bet you that stores are simply not ordering enough copies of the game, as they may be afraid to be stuck with over stock.

I think he was asking where you live so he could simply verify that you were telling the truth. For many stores, you can check area availability. He could check your target and walmart stores to see if Mario Kart is actually available there, rather than just taking you at your word.

The east side best buy claims they have it today, so I might run over there and grab it.

And, yes, it looks like Nintendo will have a very strong summer. Right now they've got quite a few games out that are either selling extremely well (Super Mario Galaxy was sold out at our Circuit City, but they don't carry a ton of copies of games), or are commonly sold out (Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit) in addition to struggling to meet Wii demand.  The Wii is going to absolutely crush the 360/ps3 this summer in terms of sales, software sales, revenue and profit.  And if Nintendo can keep their solid release cycle going and/or third parties can hit some big releases (Guitar Hero 3 big) then the Wii should have a great third year on the market after this holiday season.

Mark Kart is in stock in all the Gamestops and EB Games around my area, but then again, I live in Los Angeles. I'm sure they order games by the assload and are constantly restocking. Though I did run into a store whose only copy of Zack and Wiki was the display copy. That annoyed me. I didn't end up buying it.

My consoles and the fates they suffered:

Atari 7800 (Sold), Intellivision (Thrown out), Gameboy (Lost), Super Nintendo (Stolen), Super Nintendo (2nd copy) (Thrown out by mother), Nintendo 64 (Still own), Super Nintendo (3rd copy) (Still own), Wii (Sold)

A more detailed history appears on my profile.

I think much like Wii Fit, sales for MK may be greater in department stores (Walmart, Target, etc.) rather than specialty shops (Gamestop, EBGames).

Its funny because when I wasn't going to buy Mario Kart there were a lot in stock. But when me and my cousin were going to buy it none were in stock, only the steering wheels were in stock.

move to a bigger town. :)

I have had trouble finding a 2nd wheel though.

I know in Australia its very hard to find the game.

I've been looking for a copy of Mario Kart for a buddy's birthday (he's a wii/360 owner), and I couldn't find it anywhere when I went shopping yesterday. None of the Walmarts in a 5 mile radius (including a super walmart) had it, Target was sold out, Circuit City was sold out, and Best Buy was sold out.

"We've had hundreds," was what the Best Buy guy said when I asked, "but we're sold out."

I think everyone who has played the game will probably agree that this is the best Mario Kart ever, and that the online is absolutely awesome, but it's still ridiculous that the game is sold out a month after release. What the hell is going on?

I didn't bother checking any of the west side stores because I had a busy day planned.

I have the game.  I would definitely recommend picking it up.  I've played completely through all modes, unlocked everything, etc.  With that said, I don't think its the best MK game ever.  It is lacking mainly in these areas: Not having 2 player GrandPrix, Not having Block Fort, changing the rules for Balloon Battle, putting in horrible retro tracks without any graphical overhaul.  Other than that, the game is really really fun.

Have you played battle modes online?  The changes were necessitated by having online play, and in that respect they're really good.  I mostly do racing online, but battle mode is a lot of fun too.  I don't think block fort could accomodate 12 players, but there is at least one map that is sort of similar.

Which MK do you think is better -- by your comments, I'm assuming the N64 version.

wow, when I went and picked up Mario Kart Wii they had tons of copies. I just checked, and BestBuy.com is sold out, along with all my local BestBuys. Also ToysRus.com is sold out.

I can't believe that they are sold out online at a few locations. Walmart.com and Amazon currently have stock, but it just shows how strong of sales Mario Kart Wii is having considering it has already been out a month.

As for the producing game discs comment, Nintendo last stated they had a production problem in Dec 07, but they said they were increasing production to solve the problem, so by now producing enough discs shouldn't be an issue.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
