Forums - General - Wow, Microsoft's prototype new operating system :D

This thing is insane, shows Microsoft can be as innovative as Apple if it wants to be.

4 minute video, seems like something out of a captain's chair on Star Trek

your link need to be reconnected.

There is alot of info about this on ign's website as well. Looks really nice. One issue I see is that it requires cameras. What the articles I read didn't mention is if these are part of the surface of the computer or behind you. If they are behind you then that pretty much rules out the use of this beyond basic point of order systems.

Link's broken, but if you're talking about Surface, it's not going to be their main OS or anything...it's just something additional, that probably won't see mainstream consumers for a few more years...it'd be cool in restaurants and stores though...

If that's not Surface...then...uh...fix your link.

EDIT:  So it is Surface?  I was under the impression that cameras are built into the screen, thus being able to read credit cards and such...but maybe I'm wrong.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Looks like a copy of similar efforts:

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Obviously MS bought someone.

Innovative? You may want to check the definition of that word.

Multi touch is already being implemented by Apple in the iPhone. And multi-touch was not innovated by either Apple of Microsoft.

Also, notice the Apple OS X "dock-like" set-up of icons and the iTunes-like "cover flow" of items in that OS.

Exactly.

PSN ID: free

I realize some people don't want to give Microsoft credit for anything but this is still innovative.

Innovative perhaps, but it's more like Microsoft is using its money to actually implement an already existing interface...which is not a bad thing.
