 I am a guy and I've seen the Notebook.

although I don't remember crying, somehow two old people who had fullfilling lives and good family dying is just not sad enough for me.

if you cry in that, get yourself a bucket for Grave of the Fireflies.

No way, I was about to watch this movie last night but watched Vampire Hunter D instead because it wasn't as long. My brother brought home a handful of famous Japanese anime movies. I'll watch Fireflies tonight.

It confused me rather than making me cry (and I cry quite easily at films). The relatives they were staying with wanted the boy to go out to work to take part in the war effort and pay his way. I couldn't understand why he refused to do that and therefore let himself and his sister starve. It was very good though, as are all Ghibli films.

Really nice movie, one of my friends cry when she saw it... is sort of disturbing at the same time...

This is an extremely well done, if not perfect story telling experience. So much so that I will likely never watch it again because it is so sad. I can't handle it again...

The book isn't a true story, but it's very loosely inspired by one. The key clue is that the author didn't die, and actually survived to write the book.

Oh, and I saw it when I was 13 or so and loved it. I should see it again.

@Rubang and Ferret

The book was written by the boy in the anime, so to speak, as an apology to his sister for not taking care of her as well as he believed he could have.

The book was a semi-biography as opposed to a novel, the same events in the true experience were portrayed differently for the novel but retain the exact same meaning and outcome.
