Forums - General - The official thread of the Republican Party

Proud Republican. Im more moderate in most views though. I see myself probably as my generation's Republican, i.e. same morals such as Pro-Life, but more liberal as supporting Gay rights.

I guess I'm a far right GOPer. My positions: No gay marriage, Family values, no gov't healthcare, welfare reform, NO amnesty, Mexican double fence w/ barbed wire guards, cams, rovers, UAVs, and gun lookout towers, fiscal responsibility, ABSOLUTELY NO GOV'T SOCIALISTIC PROGRAMS

I'm conservative, but am liberal with things like gay rights, but wouldent mind seeing Mccain as the next prez, of course im Canadian so if he screws up ill go back into my igloo.

I'm about as far left as you can go so I guess I have pretty much opposite views as you. Pro-gay marriage, pro-choice, govt healthcare (already pretty much covered where I live), pro-welfare (though perhaps not as much as NZ does) and pretty easy on immigration - can't really comment on the Mexican border issue as I know little about the issue.

Thus I'm personally supporting the democrats whose ideals are closer to my own.

In NZ politics its hard to vote for anyone and make a difference as both major parties are pretty much identical - moderate centre left. Personally I'll probably vote for labour (the slightly more left party) simply because their leader (our PM for the last 9 years) is pretty entertaining and an amazing politician.

Well online political tests generally have me fairly center with slight right leanings, and very libertarian.  I don't think I can be considered republican though since I'm athiest, pro-choice, and have no problem with gay marriage.  With that said I'm turned off by all the candidates this time but especially Hillary and Obama.  I see McCain as the slim pickings we have left...its either that or starve to death .../sigh...

I kinda want John Mccain to win just to see if he sticks by his ballsy "I will Veto ANY bill that has Earmarks" promise.

This is easily the most appealing thing about his candadacy to me.

I absolutely loath the bartering that goes on in congress on both sides of the isle.  They sell out on one issue to win another rather than actually debate the merits of each issue and reach a solution.  I'd love to see a law that limited each bill to a single logical topic and completely do away with pork barrel spending and the need for the line item veto.

Also I doubt i fit in any political group... my main focus is the economy.

Fiscal conservative, to the point of where I think there should be a law that the government can't overspend in it's planned budget more then it makes. Unless a state of emergency is declared. for the state of emergency to last longer then 30 days one would need the same thing doen as you would to pass an ammendment.

This could be accomplished by getting rid of departments like the department of education.

I do however think basic government healthcare should be instituted because we pay for everyone who doesn't have healthcare anyway, and the prices for healthcare are already in the prices of everythign we buy... which is a detriment to american companies vs foreign products.

Socially, I don't care. Gay marriage. I don't see why not. It's happened in countries in the past, and I don't see it really effecting anything. Though I don't see any reason why anyone who gets married should get any sort of tax breaks or antyhing unless they have kids.

Or best compromise, just rename all legal marriage Civil Unions and say the hell with it. There is no reason churches should have claim to the word marriage but if it will stop some backwords bitching based on things that aren't even true, fine. (marriage has always been between a man and a woman. That's only been true since the later Roman Empire.)

Abortion, for abortion, but think they should push when you can get it foward or back, till the 12 week period which is when brainwaves first occur. That makes the most sense as an indicator of what is human.

It's the best compromise... it's also the position MOST people agree on. About 33% of people are Pro-Life, 66% Pro-Choice. But 33% of Pro Choice people are for pushing them back to the 12 week timeframe.

Illegal Immigration. Hell yeah put up a wall in fact, put up two walls on each border... it won't stop people but it'll make it harder, a big wall and some guards would handle everything good. I don't even get why people are against it. More importantly, put HUGE fines on any company that uses illegal immigrant work... and actually enforce the damn things. No rights for illegal immigrants either. These people are cheating the system and depriving people who do everything legally.

Global Warming. Haven't actually seen any scientific proof that it's manmade aside from some correlation studies. (which is really lazy) but to play it safe, it's best to do everything we can to slow global warming.... so long as it doesn't negativly impact our place in the world. In otherwords focus on building green power plants, and fund alternative energy technology, but say no to any international plan that involves things like tax credits and fining rich countries.

Furthemore get rid of Ethanol breaks. In many cases Ethanol isn't helping when it reaches other parts of the country/word. Plus less Ethanol production will help the global food crisis a bit.

Iraq if we left now, to me it's like a guy borrowing your car, without telling you. Totalling it, then refusing to do anything to pay you back. We should stay in there as long as the government wants us there or until we can be fairly sure a genocide won't break out.. As we are the ones whos who had our representives vote for the war. Even if you thought it was a bad idea from the start, like me. It's your damn fault for not convincing everyone else.

Gotta stay consistant. Who's going to want to deal with a country who is willing to pull out of conflicts and messes every 4 years.

I'm a Libertarian so I hate both the Dems and Republicans pretty equally. In the past, I usually leaned toward the Republicans but after 8 years of Bush and his spend-happy ways, I don't know who to vote for. I really like McCain but since he dropped his goal of pissing off the Religious Right every time he got the chance, he's diminished in my eyes. At least he's not for yanking everything out of Iraq, which I respect. That would cause a million headaches down the road and we owe it to the Iraqi people to see this shit through, no matter how bloody long it takes.

At least Hillary isn't going to have a chance. I really can't stand anything about her. Obama at least has a little charisma, though I disagree with most of his politics.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

I tend to have more Republican views, but lately, I can't say that I'm all that happy with the Republican party either. As for the candidates, I support McCain, but only because I think that he is the lesser of 3 evils (no offense to any candidate, I just heavily disagree with all of them on many issues). The reason I don't choose a 3rd party candidate is because they have almost no chance of getting elected, so I'd basically be throwing my vote away.

strategyking92 you gotta give the next president a chance, any ways i'm usually for republicans because most of them are pro life, that said mccain would be george bush's third term. go obama to end this damn war in iraq and of course he is from the gr8 state of illinois ...

Trolling like this will get you reported for moderation.  U are either a GOP member in this thread, a GOP voter, or a GOP advocate.  PS Would he?  McCain completely disagrees with Bush handling of the initial phases of OIF.
