Forums - Gaming - What's more important to a publisher;attach-rate or install-base?

I was wondering with the Wii getting little to no third party support-does the "attach-rate" and "install-base" affect the risks publishers are willing to take with their game licences? Nintendo wii-has the highest install-base of the three systems, but not by an overwhelmingly number like the PS2(which would affect where publishers lay their support). The wii also has the lowest attach rate. Playstaion 3-has the lowest install-base of the three systems, with an attach-rate slightly higher than the wii but a little lower than the 360.The PS3 and 360 get virtually the same amount of third party support now. Microsoft's 360-has the highest attach rate of games to systems, with a lower install base than the the wii but higher higher than the PS3.Companies,especially japanese ones, seem to extend more support exclusively to it than the PS3 or wii. Will this be a factor in the wii's third party support and will the lack of quality third party support, damage or hurt sales for the wii.Keep in mind that the wii has already exhausted its catalog of first party games.I's this the Wii's demise? Or...will the recent crop of a few unknown ip's be the start of the "turning point".

The Wii actually gets the highest amount of third party support and has a higher attach rate than the PS3. I don't know where you're getting your facts from.

"especially japanese ones"

That's because of Microsoft paying them a truckload of cash.

At least they are trying to appeal to the japanese audience.

On topic: I think it depends on what kind of games you make, but I would say install base is more important.

Both, huge atach rate on a low install base is not magicaly bigger than a low atach rate on a big install base...

Uhh, yea, I wasn't even talking about that, I was refering to how it has nothing to do with the 360's attach-rate.

Bleu, your opening presentation was horrible. You go on to say something totally wrong about the Wii's 3rd party support, saying it has little when it actually has more than the ps3. (though it may not be the best 3rd party support as the 360 has that.)

You then just go all out with the "doom and gloom" questions, as it you would want to see the console fail.

How would you know if the 1st party lineup is exhausted or not if you don't work for Nintendo? E3 is where Nintendo usually presents their big hitters. (like they did with Wiifit and Galaxy .) Since when does the games matter on the sales of hardware part? I mean, look at the First half of 2007. There was practically nothing to play until late october with Gh3.

Final Question.... Are you a fanboy?

Unproven ip's are just that "Unproven",so their catalog is exhausted.I meant and actually said in my OT "Quality" third party support.

I really think userbase matters more. (sorry if i sounded rude before bleu, it was just my questions.)

If attach rate mattered more, I think the ps2 would have been the losing console considering how large its userbase was. The larger the userbase, the worse the attach rate.
