Forums - Gaming - Do you prefer to have a sequel/sequels to 'masterpiece' games or no?

If there is an idea that really grabs you, then, yeah, go for it.

It depends, if the story does lead on to a second, then of course, or something like Uncharted, where you can see the team getting back to do some more exploration, but if they make a basically unrelated sequel, just using the name to try and get sales, then it kind of ruins the reputation of the previous ones

I mean when there is a game that is really good do you prefer to have a sequel/sequels to it or no? I've heard many times people say "We don't want a sequel to [X master piece game] because it would ruin the quality of the game." I've seen this happen to games like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and other games (which I can't name at the top of my head at the moment :P).

So do you prefer to have a sequel/sequels (which may or may not be good. People think sequels might not be good.) or like to keep that certain game a stand-alone masterpiece?
As long as the sequel is good

Yeah. Even if the sequel is bad. (Unless the person says he won't make a sequel then does. That kinda pisses me off.)

I'd rather know that the creator and development team have nothing more in the tank... like is the case with Final Fantasy, then be left wondering if Eternal Darkness people had more awesome games inside it's legacy. Bleed the series dry... then when you suck twice in a row, try something new and revisit it when you've got some fresh new ideas.

However NO PREQUELS. While a bad sequel doesn't ruin the original story for me... a bad prequel up and screws everything up because bad prequels often make the Masterpiece make less sense or make the characters in the masterpeace motivated for different reasons... or... something stupid happens.

Well yes of course. If there is a game that you loved so much you always would like a sequel especially if it is a open ending (Okami!!) but how more you loved a game how bigger the chance that the sequel will be dissapointed in your eyes.

Consider it this way, if GTA3 ws a masterpiece, wouldn't you be mad they never came out with GTA4. If The Legend of Zelda: A link to The Past was a "masterpiece and they didn't want to make another, where would we get that Ocarina of Time from? I like sequels to masterpieces, they make more masterpieces sometimes LOL

If the story sort of implies another, then yes.

Would we cancel South Park after the episode "Cartman's Mom is a Dirty Slut" because it was a masterpiece season?

Would we cancel the Simpsons after "Who Shot Mr. Burns?"

Would they stop making KH games after KH1?

I like sequels to good games, but that might be because I'm a Nintendo owner, and am used to that.

Prequels on the other hand can be annoying at times.
