Forums - Sales - Resident Evil 5 sales will suck??

http://au.gamespot.com/news/6191516.html

"projected to sell 2.3 million copies worldwide. "

2.3 million isn't bad, but RE4 has sold 6.11 million units between the PS2, GC and Wii versions so far, an apparently there's a PC version too

RE1 and RE2 each sold over 5 million units on the playstation alone, and I know RE1 sold more than a million on the GC

RE 3 nearly reached 4 million units on the PS2

Why is Capcom so pessimistic?

Well, they predicted only 600k for RE4 Wii and look how that turned out. Better to set low expectations and then beat them.

Doesn't seem too far off. I'd say 3 million between both versions.

Edit: Actually Dead Rising sold 1.6 M on 360. Better make that 4 million for RE.

You've got to remember that RE4 has taken four separate versions released over three years to accumulate those numbers. I don't think any one version alone cracked two million units. So their prediction is probably about right.

This prediction is going to get smashed

Since when "suck" 2.3 million copies? Even as userbase goes up the fact that there are more good games to choose from will make sales stay pretty constant. People only have so much money.

These numbers are for the fiscal year. The game may release in March of 09 for all we know.

noname, the 6.11 figure was three versions, it didn't include the pc sales. The PS2 version broke 2 million sales

kyros. Imagine if GTA4 had only managed 2.3 million sales between the 360 and PS3 versions. That would have been described as sucky sales. Capcom are predicting that this will be the lowest selling RE game in the main series (ie out of RE, RE2, RE3, RE4 and RE5)

RE 5 sales: 5 million each on both PS3 and 360 (By then PS3 and 360 will have over 30 million consoles each)

1. 2 million doesnt suck
2. Whats the difference is user base
3. Did they mean LTD?
4. RE is similar to MGS where they are popular but don't sell as much as some people seem to believe.

Finally your comparing a game that is targeting PS3 exclusively then comparing it to the sum of 3 platforms, one of which was 3 times larger than any of those platforms at the time of its release and basically 4~5 times larger than the platform it's being released on now

Something seems wrong in that relation... just can't put my finger on it.

Now if R* anticipated 2 million for GTAIV then something would be wrong.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.
