Forums - Gaming - PSP and PS3 games - are they really that bad?

My goodness! What's the world coming to? A pro-Sony site commenting negatively on a Sony game?

Armageddon is nigh upon us!

Oh my goodness! Prepare the bomb shelters!

Btw, Gballzack is pretty useless to argue with considering he ignores most of what you say.

I'm not sure if your being sarcastic or not(doesn't come through the typed words very easily) This is actually the point I was trying to make. GBallzack was trying to say they are all pro sony and therefore invalid, so I just wanted to show her bullshit to everyone else.

To answer the question that this thread poses: No, there are many great PSP games already, this will be the best year yet, and though the great PS3 games are few so far there are many really good ones already with the 2nd half of this year primed to stand up to any other console's releases.

As an owner of both, I'm quite happy. I plan to buy a Wii and perhaps a DS in the future, as well as upgrade my PC to play some games there. All 3 can wait, however.

I was being sarcastic.

If you had a look at my original post I listed a plethora of pro-Nintendo sites poo-pooing several Wii games, so yeah, we are along the same lines, just referring to different consoles. The bottom line is I don't believe for one second that Metacritic is pro-anything at all.

Yeah, language tone is hard to figure out when reading - hell, it's hard enough sometimes when listening!

This thread makes my brain hurt...your mother and gballzack, you both need to stop.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Anyway, I generally dont rely on Game Review websites. So, to anwser the question the thread was asking, No. I am just not so interested in ANY of them that are available at the moment.

What, then, do you rely on? Do you buy games based on licenses? Do you only buy Mario games because you think all Mario games will be good (generally they are)? Do you not try new IPs? Do you try all games to decide for yourself? That would certainly be an impressive feat.

The fact of this whole debate is that game reviews are quite useful in determining how good a game is. If you actually read the reviews (*gasp*) you can get a feel for why they rated the game a certain way and can then decide for yourself whether you agree with the assessment.

What I meant to say is I dont rely on the scores given. I rely on what they say about the game. If it says that the frame rate is bad, or that the graphics are not great, then they may score it low. However, if the overall story or gameplay is good, I can consider picking it up. The sites may say the same things about the game, but one will rate it lower than the other. That is, of course, because of how much of the score goes in to a certain element of the game.

As for Mario games. Yeah, I pick those up blindly, because Miyamoto has not let me down yet. Same for Zelda.

Just a little observation... I think review sites aren't really reliable... Take Tamagotchi game as example. Of course for an adult, the game would be without interest and quite boring, but for a little girl it's a blasty blast! My cousin has it and she has much fun with the game... See what I mean?

Everyone has different view on games and what they're looking for. For a certain person X game can have horrible graphics, but for another it can look pretty nice. I know most people look at those sites to know what game to get but still sometimes, you have to think of your own interests.

There might be much high rated games on the PSP vs DS but most of them don't appeal to me. So what difference does it make to me? None, in my eyes, the DS is still of more value game-wise.

Same can be said about the Wii vs PS3... To someone else, the Wii games have no importance in their eyes, so those rating don't mean anything to them.

Games are not rated badly for being kids games, look at Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime as an example. Reviewers play the game and even if it's for kids if they like it they review it high.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Downloadble games are also scored on a different scale.  Reviewers are not all stupid, they take many things in account.  Many of them have played thousands of games and actually like playing games.  Sounds like just the person I want to tell me what they thought of a game, especially if you get opinions from lots of people.  Obviously, I disagree with reviews at times, but that does not make them all useless.

Miyamoto doesn't make all Mario games, but you might not have guessed that I didn't just mean the main games.  Of course, I don't like all of those anyway, but that's just my opinion.

I just find it hard to believe that as a gamer you aren't interested in any PSP or PS3 game.  As a gamer myself, I think there are at least 5 games on every console ever released I'd want to play.  It might be a struggle on something like the Jaguar, but perhaps besides that one, I don't know.   I'll probably never get a 360 but there are certainly games on it I'd enjoy playing that are exclusive.

I just don't understand how a fan of videogames can say they wouldn't want to play ANY (your emphasis) game on a current system.  Very strange to me.

Ugh, I hate to get involved in this, but more on topic: Only 3 of the PS3 games that have an 8 or above are exclusives. 2 really because VF5 is coming to the 360. 4 of the Wii's are exclusive (take away Madden) and they have better average scores than the PS3's 2. You can take away TP if you want, but it's scored higher on the Wii because of the motion controls.  The same situation applies to the PSP. Take away PS2 ports and you are left with far fewer games. These are all taken from Gamerankings.com. I'm not saying they are bad, I'm just saying it's stupid to compare the libraries right now, since nearly all of the PS3's and PSP's good games can be purchased on the 360 and PS2 (for cheaper).
