Forums - Sales - The Official Wii-Detractor Debunking Thread

LOL, why are people being defensive against what I said? I have not stated my opinion as to if I think 3rd party support is good or bad on the Wii. I just pointed out that the argument for 3rd party support is a little different they the statistic that was shown by the OP.

I have no clue if 3rd party developers are successful or not, and I don’t really care all that much.

I just read the post, and offered some input on the analyses approach. Nothing more.

We got your point but the problem is you were generalizing from a negative viewpoint.  You implied the support was still bad despite the circumstances by suggesting individual sales per game were low.

I clearly stated "I have no idea what those averages are, but I think that’s what people are talking about then they bring up this point."

How is that negative?

Well, your point was valid. it was our example that was negative because it suggested the overall % of 3rd party sales, regardless of how high, is irrelevant and low on a per game basis comapred to other consoles.

You may not have intentionally made that suggestion but that's how many read it.

@Realmafoo, the impression that Viper is giving has been seen before. Many other fanboys have used a similar point to bash the Wii. Stating things like individual 3rd party titles sell less per game than PS360 ones.

The bold part of your statement is how I meant it, but I don't find it negative.

The only reason anyone should care about 3rd party support, is to feel confident that large production house will make games for the Wii. To those production houses, they don’t care about total volume of 3rd party sales. They just care about how well their prospective title could sell.

In order to glean that information out of Wii sales, you need to dig deeper into the numbers then what the OP did. I am not implying in any way what those number would be if you did look deeper into them, I am just saying that the analysis is incomplete when trying to defend against what detractors are arguing.

I think the best data point for or against this argument, will be when Force Unleashed is released. It will be the first major game I can think of that will be released across all platforms.

If the Wii version outsells the HD versions, then this argument can be put to bed.

There is still a slight problem with that comparison. We would need to compare things like production costs, schedule, etc. and we can't accurately get most of the data required to make a viable comparison.

I think the comparison you want is profit/time and I don't think we have that data.

Sooner even. Alone in the dark is going to be released in June - according to Wikipedia. Though it will be released for the PS3 in september, it at least gives us a reference in terms of Xbox360/Wii sales in the first months.

First off this is sooooooooooooooooooo stupid. If you look at the shit we Wii owner have is just ridicules. We only have like 15 good games and the rest are just pieces of shit! There is no point in buying games other then Nintendo games that we all know are good. Who wants to buy those crappy games. So do not blame Nintendo for this blame the developers!!!!!

Wait, so ALL 3rd party is at 50% of total sales, and you think that games other than first party sell?

Not to mention the top 7 games on the console are all Nintendo.

Your other points are fair enough, but this one? Not a chance.

50% of 50 million = 25 million

Wii - 25 million (only 3rd parties)

X360 - 28 million (all sales)

PS3 - 20 million (all sales)

Want to retract that comment yet?
