Forums - Sony - Will Metal Gear Sold 4 Need a HDD Install?

Remember the people who have got the 20gig ps3 and even the 40gig most casual gamers do not want to have to play around with there system and have to buy and place a new hard drive inside these people buy a console and just want to play games on it. There is one thing I wouldlike to ask it might seem dumb but your saved games do they go after you uninstall? If so this would suck big time as most people dont finnish games before moving on to the next.

installed data is separate form the game save data, so removing the install won't remove the save, and in all honesty, if you haven't finished the game and you're moving on to the next, you won't need to remove the install anyway. it only makes sense to remove installs of games you don't have anymore, or don't plan on playing anymore/for a long time.

Unsurprising, streaming 50 GB's off of optic media would be a bigger hassle than installing for 7-10 minutes imo and I'm sure Kojima figured the same long before me.

Remember, we can't be sure whether we'll have to install that. Oblivion didn't require an install (it didn't even offer one) yet it put a 5.5 GB file on the HDD. Could be same here.

My point is that while it most likely requires an install, this is not a confirmation. It could be just some random file put there in the background. Or maybe not. We can't know yet.

if it put 5.5gb on the hdd, then i personally would count that as some form of install. as it's not dumping it there for no reason, it needs the data to be there.

Well, of course it could be counted as an install... But to me an install means I'll have to install it manually. An install is a delay that prevents me from playing the game right away. I think it's a matter of how to define an install.

Oh, forgot the previous time. I don't exactly mind if it's an install. It'll feel even more like a reward when I get to play the game and it's not that bad to keep a 4.5 GB file on the disk if I'm going to play the game a lot, like this one. I'm sure to complete the game at least three times next summer, possibly even more. And again and again some time later I guess. I must've completed MGS2 at least six times.

ok thanks guys:) I wasnt sure about that one.

It's easy enough to upgrade the HDD yourself. Changed mine from it's initial 60GB to 250GB. Only cost £50 too if you shop around! *edit : Probably less now?

No more worries!

Yea seriously, I'm suprised that nobody else has mentioned that.

I don't mind installs and I'm not as bitchy about them as others, but I do know that it sucks if I'd want to show somebody a game I haven't played in a while, I would have to manage my space with installs (which I still have 20-30gigs left on my HDD anyway) or sit through the install again because I delete installs when I'm done with the game.

Haze says 5GB on the back of the box. Does Haze require such a large install?

Event if it does in MGS4 then, I don't mind. Shortens load time is good. Why they didn't do some kinda of thing with the Cell where by while a sequence is playing, other parts of the processor are used to load the next sequeance or area or what not...or something like that. Anywho...

Hmm, pie.

Besides; as a PC game I'm well used to installs so it doesn't deterr me enough to not buy a game because of it or even bother complaining about it.
The install on PC titles has always been the Ace of that platform so I'm glad dev's are starting to see how it can actually lift or improve performance.
The BluRay drive in the PS3 is a tad on the slow side at any rate (2x?).

The real problem is that this game is not 1080p, despite what some here insisted.

This game does not prove the superiority of the PS3! This is an OUTRAGE!

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I already made this thread! Barghhh!

What they need to do is offer the 80 gb system here in Australia and other PAL areas.

The system retails for about $US650 here (about $600 US once you account for taxes), meaning they are making a tonne off of us. By the time we buy the measly 40gb system, then replace the HDD, its costing us TRUCKLOADS of cash.

Dammit, starcraft will you please stop tro....... oh wait, I actually completely agree with you... carry on.

OnT:  The install will be forgotten after the game starts.
