VGChartz Hardware data for the period

It's interesting to see how much better hardware is selling in the UK compared to Japan recently( 4 months).

  • The Wii is almost selling at the same rate with only 21% more sold in Japan
  • The PS3 has sold 61% more in the UK then Japan over the last 4 months
  • The Xbox360 is doing far better in the UK. (As Expected 886%)

Both the PS3 and Wii have a greater LTD in Japan but the sales of the PS3 are clearly slowing compared to the UK. This could explain why we are not seeing so many JRPG's produced on the PS3 as the UK and Europe are showing themselves to be far larger markets then Japan and so they are creating more games that cater for the European audience.

At the present rate (this weeks) we could see more PS3 sold in the UK then Japan within a year.

I don't think it's irrational to say that Europe might pass America in the next 10-20 years as the number 1 gaming market.

So, should we expect this year´s E3 and TGS to mark the start of the flood of 3rd party titles for the Wii?

Definitely.  Any company that isn't announcing a flood of Wii titles this year is most likely going to lose money, except for the select few devs that have something ridiculously huge for the HD consoles.

Geez, HD gaming started to die in Japan already?
Hopefully that trend will wear off and at least PS3 will continue to sell with 2007 rate.

As a matter of fact, the Ps3 has been tracking below GC in Japan for about 4/5 of the time (source; http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=GC&reg1=Japan&cons2=PS3&reg2=Japan&cons3=N64&reg3=Japan&weeks=86)

It isn't by a lot, and GC continued to fall, something I guess Ps3 won't, but I still believe it will have a hard time beating the N64.

Oh, and while this is a little off topic, I wouldn't say Ps3 is outselling Ps2 in Japan by much; http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=PS2&reg1=Europe&cons2=PS3&reg2=Europe&cons3=PS2&reg3=Europe&weeks=83&weekly=1)

I just wanna know what the hell is SCEJ doing,,,,roll out soem god damn JRPG for japanese,,,,sony is working to make them extremely polished,,,but few extremely high production value games are not gonna do it.

ROLL OUT SOME JRPG DAMN IT,,,,seriously what are the jrpg games on PS3?even 360 has more jrpg.it's like sony thinks they don't need JRPG or something.

Why is Japan in a separate section? It should be in Others.

It is quite improbable that the PS3 will be a "late boomer" like the PSP is. What you need to see such huge hardware sales later in the lifecicle of a console is a franchise that brings in a lot of new gamers. Monster Hunter did that for the PSP but there is no franchise on the PS3 release list that could save the console in such a way.

The PSP never sold bad in Japan it always showed decent numbers and was destined to see lifetime sales of 10 million units even without Monster Hunter. The PS3 has higher developement costs, a smaller install base, worse software sales and the weekly sales are in decline as well. There is no basis to assume that PS3 sales will spike sometimes later in it´s lifecycle, really.

The PS3 will see great Europe and decent America sales, though.

Wii Fit outsold the entire Ps3 software library again..

The colour blue almost outsold the 360 library :P

For the Ps3 late bloom, the PsP never dropped below 20K during its first 100 weeks, the Ps3 is fighting not to drop below 5. (Although, it has some 10K+)
