Squad commands axed for Gears of War 2, other answers 10 Comments by Ross Miller May 22nd 2008 1:27PM Filed under: Microsoft Xbox 360, First Person Shooters Gears of War 2 designer Cliff "Don't Call Me CliffyB" Bleszinski (note: yes, we have turned his name into a text macro to avoid misspellings) has confirmed with Microsoft's Gamerscore blog that the squad-based commands of the original game have been axed for the sequel. Bleszinski also talked about the chainsaw vs. chainsaw system, which is not random like the original but based on whoever hits the B button the most. "I didn't want it to be quick time event because I think I'm kind of tired of those in most games," he said. In the video embedded above, he also talked about the use of the crowd system for epic battles and what he likes to label the "summer blockbuster type video game experience." Gears of War 2 is due this November. _________________________________ I like how he just 'tossed in' that you'll be other characters throughout the game other than Marcus I understand why they're only using the crowds in certain situations, as Marcus would clearly get raped if it was just him on the ground against 100 Locust, but I'd like to see a situation like that in the game, maybe as an unlockable extra once you beat the game.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Hoping this game really is a hollywood blockbuster type of game!

So they replaced "push button and walk forward" with "mash button and walk forward"? I guess that's a fairer way to decide who wins, but hardly anything to write home about.

@Parokki: You misunderstood, then. You don't mash B the entire time you have the chainsaw out. In Gears 1, when two guys ran at each other with chainsaws, it was random who got the kill. Now, in the same situation, whoever mashes B the most when they clash wins.

Doesn't seem like an improvement so much as fixing a mistake. Kudos for avoiding QTEs though. Those suck ass in every game they've ever been in.

So CliffyB's team at Epic is able to put out a game every 2 years, Insomniac is able to put out a game every year, what is with all the other studios that take so damned long to put out games? Or are they just stupid enough to start working on a game, go to a conference and say, "We are working on this great game, look at this stuff we have to show you" and forget to mention that the stuff was first thought of two days before and made the day before and it won't be out forever.

im so hyped for this game now im getting a 360. when i had my old one, i still used to playthe first onet and it was sick even though it was a year old game

When I first got my 360 I left gears in the celophane wrapper for nearly 2 weeks because I didn't wat to play a console shooter. I only opened it then cause I had an invite to a game. Now I need to get my next fix of gears ASAP.
