Same was said for PS1, PS2 and now PS3.

What made PS and Ps2 succesfull, FF MGS GT. Does the PS3 not have them.

At the end when wii/360/PS3 production ends, PS3 will have the majority of the market.

hahahah, you're so funny, cracking me up like that.

imo, you should become comedia really :D

Was the PS2 really 300 US Dollars when it was launched? I paid 1250 Dutch Guilders for it when it came out. Thats around 600 US Dollar! And that was the standard retail price here in the Netherlands/EU.

So for me the PS3 was just as expensive as the PS2.

And I get alot more than I got with the PS2. HD, BR, Online, Streaming (DIVX/XVID/MP3's/everything) from my PC.

Europe has a lot of stupid import taxes on electronics, that bloat the price of systems. Yet Brazil is even worse.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

It was $300 indeed in the US. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_2

Couldn't remember that there was such a huge price difference between US&EU with the PS2.

The PS3 price seems to be much more leveled between the US and the EU.

Still bit cheaper in the US, but isn't everything!

THE NETHERLANDS

PS3 is a LOT cheaper in the US, given the current weak $. List price is £425 which is about $850. Before tax it is about $750.

This is some funny stuff.

FF, MGS, and GT did not make the PS2 successful, SingStar, Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution, and sandbox-style 3rd person violence sagas did.

But the real keys to the kingdom are actually held by EA, and have been for nearly two decades. As goes EA, so goes the console war, and this has been the case since the days of the Sega Genesis. EA's M.O. is giving their franchises a facelift and re-releasing the same IP every year with a few tweaks and bilking $50 a pop per title from casual gamers.

That's how you build a franchise and laugh all the way to the bank in doing it (while likely determining the outcome of a consoles' launch in the process).

EA abandoned the N64 after a few years and doomed the GC when they were forced to finally reconsider their product strategies with the PS2s launch, because they were staring down the very real threat of getting buried by 1st party studios on both consoles: 989 @ Sony and the groundbreaking 2K Sports @ Sega.

Madden 2001 was most observers' 'eureka moment' in viewing the PS2, so the real catalyst in the PS2's smashing success, which started really from the day it launched, was not FF, MGS, or GT, it was the fact that Madden, FIFA, Nascar, Tiger Woods, SSX, Need for Speed ... etc, etc ... all became PS2 exclusives by default.

Sony + EA + no competition = winner, winner, chicken dinner.

Things are substantially different this time around.

BRAWK BRAWK. PS2 sales were not slow. PS2 had no competion Brawk. Dreamcast was dead BRAWK.

You get the idea. Everyone has pretty much made it clear(BRAWK).

  • PS2 had a head start
  • PS2 had no competiton
  • PS2 had many great titles, and support for big name developers
  • DVDs were actually growing at the time
  • It was actually afordable

It's plan and simple. PS2 had the ball in it's court but the PS3 didn't. Sony didn't capitilize on what made their systems sell. Nintendo and Mircosoft did.

Also keep in mind that the PS2 was successful enough to create "piggyback" purchases as its life cycle continued. I didn't buy one right away -- I had the PS1, bought a Dreamcast after buying an HDTV and wanting something higher-resolution to play on it, then a Gamecube, then a PS2. I left the PS2 alone at $299 when it was new, but later when it was $199 with a bunch of worthwhile Greatest Hits titles it would have been stupid NOT to buy one. I've had lots of great gaming on the PS2; even ran out and replaced it right away when I stupidly tried to use a PS1 multitap on it and fried the controller interface somehow.

I would like to have lots of great gaming on the PS3 someday, but right now it's the Wii for me and I'm waiting on one of the HD systems after the market settles out. Might be the 360, might be the PS3. The decision is certainly NOT a no-brainer at this point.

lols! ZOMWTFBBQ! The chartz, they hurtz my eyez!

I don't call these guys, Sony Fanboys, I call them "Friends of Sony". I cannot wait until its December of 2007 and the Wii has tripled or quadrupled its lead over the PS3. Will the Friends simply explode? Will their heads come flying off?

THE SHIP IS SINKING but somehow you think that drowning is fun!

On a serious note... There are a lot of serious thinkers and analysts on this site and they've looked at this very closely and... Sony is in real bad shape. Its not hate. Its not Wii hype. Its reality.

Lol, just face reality. So you love the PS3, good for you. There's nothing wrong with that. But the facts and the stats prove that the PS3 is in bad shape and nothing in the near future is gonna change that. The facts also show that the Wii is flying off the shelves. Its reality.

It would be interesting if somebody did post an interesting and new angle at looking at this console war-- but no one has. All we get from the pro-Sony camp is blustering and BS.

Shrug...
