Basically it's to counter all the misleading claims that the wii has a poor attach rate (which it doesn't, given the amount of high quality games it has).
Too bad all those games are just gathering dust on peoples shelves. As you know, nobody plays their Wiis after the first few weeks.
I would be interested in worldwide numbers more. Or a regional breakdown.

Then that gets disproved.
"The Wii only sells first party software!"
Then that turns out to be false as well.
"The Wii doesn't sell mature games!"
This doesn't hold water either, but seems to be the current stage of realization for a lot of people.
There's also the slightly puzzling "Even bad games sell on the Wii!", which isn't really worth even refuting.

According to this graph provided by Nintendo, it appears that 3rd parties are accounting for well over half of total sales which would be about 30-35 million.
Wait a minute? Isn't PS3 and X360 total sales less than that? Well, there you go. Wii 3rd party titles alone sold more than all software for either the PS3 or X360 for the first 18 months in the US.

Wii Sports should count, Wii Play should be removed. Just because it comes with the console, it doesn`t mean it is free. Isn`t the Wii cheaper in Japan because it come without any game? Wii Play is just a 10 buck game. Without Wii Sports the Wii could go for U$ 200.

Thing is that they dont clarify if its US data or worlwide data.
If its worlwide data we have a problem as Nintendo claim 50 million games sold and VGchartz has around 115 million....not even removing the Wii Sports EU/US data can we concile this.
