this is inspired by another thread, im sure you know which one. What i want to know is why so many people seem to be vermentley opposed to the idea of Global Warming, from what ive seen on TV and read in Papers and read on Wikipedia, GW is the leading theory and has alot of support from scientists, so why are people so opposed to it?

@ PS360, i did read your thread, i know why you might think that, but 2 things, 1 your opinion is poorly thought out and backed up, 2 my post is neutral, and if i get flamed for it, i will get me a giant hose.

Global warming is happening, but not to the extent that people seem to be panicing about IMO. Most of I swear is tabloid newspapers (in England anyway) trying to whip up a frnzy by saying that global warming will kill us all by next week.

Newspapers are overreacting global warming but in my opinion is that the best that they can do.... If they want that people care about it otherwise if they just write down that it is not so big deal people will not care about it;.

the arguments for it are all ad populum, lies or severe distortions... why shouldnt i ignore them?

Maybe its because scientists already claimed we were all going to die because of global cooling less than 40 years ago. I am a scientist myself, but I think predicting global weather patterns is to complicated for us to accomplish with any amount of reliability.

I do believe we should be as environmentally friendly as possible, however, I think it should be because the market wants it, not because the governments force it or because of some stupid scare that doesn't have enough factual information.

When science starts to accurately predict what the weather will look like 5 days from now then I'll give credence to predictions on the scale of decades from now.

I am going to just type a couple of points like

1. the world is getting hotter.

2.Ice caps will melt

3. see level will rise because of land-ice melting but not sea ice melting. pluss sea-level will also rise because heat makes water expand.

4. Fresh ice water dilluting the Great Conveyor belt will make it stop.

5. if point 4 happens North America and Western europe will go into some kind of ice age thing.

6. possibly the rate of global warming would be counteracted by the rate of freezing in these regions so the effects may be minimal.

7. Iglobal warming may not be happening as quick as scientists are suggesting but for people to realise the seriousness off global warming, it needs to be exaggerated because many peple are to lazy to do anything about it else.

Hasn't this happened on Earth before?
