Itagaki's Opinion of GTAIV and Rockstar

Tecmo's Tomonobu Itagaki is a serious guy. Dead serious about things like his Ninja Gaiden games and things like anatomical physics. He's not messing around, folks! So when he looks at Grand Theft Auto IV, does he see serious business? Says Itagaki:

I think it [Grand Theft Auto IV] is made extremely well and is a fun game... People always use that as an example of violence in games. But I don't think there's anyone who takes their job as seriously as the guys who make that game. You only have to look at all the detail in there.

That's a pretty high compliment right there, Rockstar!

Itagaki Talks GTAIV [CVG]

Okay, this is Mr. Breast Physics, but the recent Ninja Gaiden games have all showed off the systems they've been on (Xbox, 360, PS3, and DS), so he does know about hard work.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

10/10.

Actually, I think Rockstar would prefer the money the game earned, instead of 10s.

EDIT: Or did you mean to rate that comment?

But But...T3H Bribes!!

I agree with him.....Rockstar is brilliant....just because some insecure fanboys feel GTA IV is crap doesn't mean they are bad

Is it the first time Itagaki openly compliments a game from another developer?

Rockstar North are geniuses (as are the Housers who wrote it)
And it is clear from the game that a ridiculous amount of work has gone into it

One thing I will praise Rockstar for is the vibrant feel of Liberty City. At times, it honestly feels like you're in a real city.

There are traffic jams, loads of pedestrians, ambient noises, some weather conditions (I just about shit myself when I drove through Algonquin one morning only to be met with a fog bank), and tons of little details throughout.

My favorite touch is when you're walking outside and you hear people conversing with each other and then see a car drive by slowly and hear their radio muffled in the background. Brilliant.
